About the Role

This position is located in the Custer County Extension Office, Arapaho, OK. The role provides leadership to family and consumer sciences (FCS) and supports the 4-H youth development programs with approximately 90% of time spent in FCS and 10% in 4-H youth development work. The position participates as a cohesive OSU Extension team member to involve local clientele and advisory groups in planning, implementing, and evaluating the total county program. Due to communication expectations, the incumbent must maintain a cellular or other electronic communication device, with compensation provided for personal device use.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, with occasional evenings and weekends.

Pay

Base annual salary for entry-level educators is $44,000 with a bachelor’s degree and $50,000 with a master’s degree. Starting salary is based on education and prior relevant work experience. Extension educators with only a bachelor’s degree are encouraged to pursue an approved master’s degree.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences, public health, or a similar health-related field is required. For candidates without an FCS degree, the following certifications must be obtained within two years of employment (expenses not covered by employer):
    • No FCS or Education Degree: Take two approved education courses (Pedagogy & Classroom Management) and pass APK and FCS OSAT within two years.
    • No FCS Degree, but an Education Degree: Provide proof of passing PPAT or APK.
    • No FCS Degree, but Alternatively Certified in FCS with three years of teaching: No special requirements.
  • Degree must be conferred on or before the agreed-upon start date.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel connected with official duties (reimbursement provided).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences.
  • Previous experience in Cooperative Extension or closely related work.
