About the role

Oklahoma State University (OSU) Extension educators are the “front door” to the University, providing a link between OSU and the people of the state in all 77 Oklahoma counties. OSU Extension represents a federal, state, and county partnership working since 1914. The mission of OSU Extension is to disseminate information to the people of Oklahoma and encourage the adoption of research-generated knowledge. Extension educators provide research-based information to clientele in the areas of agriculture, family and consumer sciences, 4-H youth development, and community and rural development.

This position is located in the Pontotoc County Extension Office, Ada, OK. The role provides leadership to family and consumer sciences (FCS) and supports the 4-H youth development programs with approximately 90% of time spent in FCS and 10% in 4-H youth development work. The position participates as a cohesive OSU Extension team member to involve local clientele and advisory groups in planning, implementing, and evaluating the total county program.

Due to communication expectations, the incumbent will be required to maintain a cellular or other electronic communication device. The salary includes compensation to apply toward the use of a personal cellular device. Extension educators comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines related to equal opportunity, civil rights, and affirmative action. Educators are hired into the organization, not a specific geographic location, and future circumstances may require relocation.

Schedule

  • Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
  • Occasional evenings and weekends

Pay

Base annual salary for entry-level educators:

  • Bachelor’s degree: $45,000
  • Master’s degree: $51,000

Starting salary is based on education and prior relevant work experience. Extension educators hired with only a bachelor’s degree are encouraged to work toward completion of an approved master’s degree. Continuation of employment is based on need, performance, and available county funding.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to family and consumer sciences (FCS) programs and support 4-H youth development initiatives.
  • Collaborate with local clientele and advisory groups to plan, implement, and evaluate county programs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clientele, advisory groups, volunteer leaders, and other professionals.
  • Design, promote, present, and evaluate educational programs, ensuring outreach to diverse audiences.
  • Maintain effective communication through cellular or electronic devices as required by the role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences, public health, or a similar health-related field (must be conferred on or before the agreed-upon start date).
  • For candidates without a degree in FCS, the following certifications must be obtained within two years of employment (expenses not covered by employer):
    • No FCS or Education Degree: Take two approved education courses (Pedagogy & Classroom Management) and pass APK and FCS OSAT.
    • No FCS Degree, but an Education Degree: Provide proof of passing PPAT or APK.
    • No FCS Degree, but Alternatively Certified in FCS and three years teaching: No special requirements.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel connected with official duties (reimbursement provided for official travel).
