Extension Agent 4-H/YD (Forsyth County)
About the role
The Extension Agent for 4-H Youth Development in Forsyth County is one of two 4-H Agents who partner together to present programming for youth and adults involved with the overall 4-H youth development program. This Agent is responsible for planning, executing and evaluating effective and comprehensive 4-H educational programs that meet the needs of the county’s limited resource youth from ages 5-19, in accordance with the mission and priorities established by National 4-H Council in alignment with the mission and vision of N.C. Cooperative Extension and N.C. A&T Cooperative Extension. Programs focus on developing leadership, citizenship and workforce skills in youth, including an extensive Science and STEM element, through a variety of established instructional delivery modes.
This position primarily focuses on delivering programs addressing the specific needs of urban limited-resource and socially-disadvantaged youth, based on changing social, economic, and demographic factors. The 4-H Agent’s high priority needs and issues are confronting residents of low income and minority communities, including but not limited to, public housing concentrating on youth experiencing problems and families in adverse situations.
Responsibilities
- Determine program needs and priorities by conducting needs assessments
- Collaborate and partner including county and community based organizations to deliver programs and recruit program participants
- Organize, communicate, and deliver course materials in formal and informal instructional settings, such as organized 4-H clubs, special interest youth programs, 4-H projects, after-school programs, summer day camp programs, and school enrichment
- Evaluate data collected from multiple sources including needs assessments, advisory/specialized committee members, county residents and program participants, in an effort to determine program impacts
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 overall or a 3.0 in the major field of study (based on a 4.0 scale), or completion of a Master’s degree
- A personal automobile and valid NC driver’s license
- Computer literacy; strong oral and written communication skills
- The ability to plan, implement, market, and evaluate educational programs
- Willingness to work as a team member and support a total Extension program
- The ability to handle multiple demands and set priorities
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
- Master’s degree in field related to child or youth education or development as specified above, and two or more years of experience working with limited-resource youth
- Experience planning programs and working in diverse communities
- Experience working effectively as a team member
- Spanish speaking
- The ability to manage time and resources
- Experience and knowledge in mass media, marketing and presentations
- Skills in leadership, budgeting and public relations

Pay
$40,000-$50,000 Commensurate with education and experience

Hybrid (Employees are working part-time in the office to perform job tasks that require on-campus engagement, and the remaining time at home)
