Extension Agent 4-H
Position Overview
The Extension Agent for 4-H Youth Development will be located in Mitchell County and is responsible for planning, executing and evaluating effective and comprehensive 4-H educational programs that meet the needs of the county’s limited resource youth from ages 5-19, in accordance with the mission and priorities established by the National 4-H Council and in alignment with the mission and vision of the Cooperative Extension at NC A&T. Programs focus on developing leadership and workforce skills in youth, including an extensive STEM element, through a variety of established instructional delivery modes. The position will also include 4-H programming in promoting healthy food choices and increased physical activity utilizing the Try Healthy curriculum.
This position will collaborate with county and community based organizations to deliver programs and recruit program participants; determine program needs and priorities by conducting needs assessments; organize, communicate, and deliver course materials in formal and informal instructional settings, including organized 4-H clubs, special interest youth programs, 4-H projects, after-school programs, summer day camp programs, and school enrichment programs; and evaluate data collected from multiple sources including advisory committee members, county residents and program participants, to determine program impacts. This position focuses on delivering programs addressing the specific needs of urban limited-resource and socially-disadvantaged youth, based on changing social, economic, and demographic factors. Targets high priority needs and issues confronting residents of low income and minority.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 overall or a 3.0 in the major field of study (based on a 4.0 scale), or completion of a Master’s degree;
- A personal automobile and valid driver’s license;
- Computer literacy;
- Strong oral and written communication skills;
- The ability to plan, implement, market, and evaluate educational programs;
- The willingness to work as a team member and support a total Extension program;
- The ability to handle multiple demands and set priorities.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
- Master’s degree in field related to child or youth education or development as specified above;
- Two or more years of experience working with limited-resource youth;
- Experience planning programs and working in diverse communities;
- Experience working effectively as a team member;
- The ability to manage time and resources;
- Experience and knowledge in mass media, marketing and presentations;
- Skills in leadership, budgeting and public relations.

Remote or Hybrid Work Arrangement
This position may be eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, consistent with university and state policies. N.C. A&T employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
