About the role

The Extended Care Assistant supports and advances the mission of FCS by directing the activities of our extended care students; reports to the Extended Care Coordinator and is evaluated by the Principal.

Responsibilities

  • Arrives promptly and stays until such time as necessary responsibilities are completed
  • Develops a warm rapport with students and a positive, secure environment; trains students in habits and routines which are part of the FCS philosophy; maintains excellent student conduct and attention
  • Keeps accurate sign-in/sign-out sheets and any other appropriate records
  • Prepares Bible lessons and weekly and seasonal crafts, integrating Biblical principles throughout the program
  • Prays regularly for each child and faithfully follows the Biblical guidelines of the school
  • Covers a Christian perspective in daily interactions and conversations with sensitivity and love with parents and students
  • Maintains student and family confidentiality and refrains from discussing issues outside of extended care with parents
  • Supervises students on the playground or in the gym, observing principles of safety at all times
  • Interacts with students, building relationships through one-on-one and group activities
  • Engages in physical play with children in grades Pre-K up to 5th
  • Supervises restroom time
  • Helps keep the extended care rooms tidy and the materials organized
  • Maintains organization of storage areas
  • Helps at snack time with opening drinks and assisting with cleaning tables or desks after snack
  • Puts materials away and prepares new materials for the next day
  • Keeps the extended care rooms attractive and inviting; if applicable, keeps bulletin boards current
  • If supervising homework time, assures a quiet work environment and assists students in their areas of struggle
  • Affords assistance with other tasks as needed
  • Attends Prayer 'N' Share regularly (if contract hours accommodate)
  • Prompt and faithful with any assigned supervision duties
  • Checks email regularly and completes timecard promptly

Qualifications

  • Committed Christian with a close personal walk with the Lord and the Christian character qualities to serve as a role model for young people
  • Regular in attendance at an evangelical Protestant church
  • Commitment to a Biblical lifestyle, not promoting or engaging in premarital, extramarital, transgender, or homosexual behavior
  • If married, a solid commitment based on Mark 10:9 and positive marital relationship
  • Strong commitment to Christian education
  • Ability to maintain an orderly learning atmosphere
  • Enthusiastic, sensitive, loving rapport with students, openness with parents and staff
  • Well organized, diligent, creative
  • Ability to carry out physical requirements related to the job and building environment, such as (but not limited to) climbing stairs and supervising students both out-of-doors and indoors

Skills

  • Dress modestly, following the Staff Dress Code
  • Demonstrates professional responsibility in being punctual and diligent in attendance
  • Seeks an awareness of the total school vision and serves willingly in special areas which enhance the overall effectiveness of the ministry
