The Technology Insights Group (TIG) at Bain & Company is a rapidly growing global team of world-class technologists. We partner with leading Private Equity (PE) investors and their tech-enabled portfolio companies as technical advisors in investment processes, conducting product and technology due diligence and value creation assignments. The team consists of technology-savvy consultants and former CTOs and CPOs of leading global technology and software companies, with decades of advising and operating experience. TIG has completed over 400 product and technology diligences and value creation engagements worldwide, supporting high-profile technology investments, including several of the global Top 2024 & 2025 software deals.
About the Role
Joining the Technology Insights Group (TIG) offers an exciting opportunity to build a critical capability at Bain. You will work closely with global tech leadership and regional private equity (PE) teams, leveraging your technology and consulting experience to assess key aspects of leading software companies for PE investors. This role provides the chance to help clients strategically navigate how technology shapes their businesses while solving complex challenges. You will collaborate with an outstanding team, enhancing your technology expertise, commercial acumen, and analytical skills, and gain direct exposure to CEOs, executives, and private equity professionals. Whether your long-term goal is to grow with Bain, join a PE/VC firm, or launch a technology company, this role provides a strong foundation.
Responsibilities
- Lead and drive technology due diligence and value creation assignments for PE investors targeting software businesses.
- Actively contribute across the entire client engagement, from formulating the project scope to building and presenting the final report.
- Drive and support primary and secondary research efforts; collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data from various sources.
- Conduct hypothesis-led problem solving, communicate complex ideas, and approach problems strategically.
- Develop and communicate recommendations and insights to the project team, PE investors, and technology leaders.
- Invest in special initiatives and projects that help scale the practice (e.g., operations and systems).
Requirements
- Minimum of three days per week working in person, either at a client location or your Bain home office.
- Travel is required; frequency and destinations will vary based on project needs.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a passion for transformation, an entrepreneurial spirit, empathy, and technical aptitude. The following qualifications are highly valued:
- Passion for software and the broader tech industry (e.g., digital transformation, disruptive business models).
- 3+ years in a software or technology-related position or industry; technical due diligence experience or a technical background in a PE firm is strongly preferred.
- Ability to rapidly absorb and interpret technical information with an inquisitive and eager-to-learn mindset.
- Client service orientation and emotional intelligence, with a passion for delivering high-impact results in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and emotional agility to interface across all levels at Bain and client organizations.
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
- Entrepreneurial, curious, and innovative thinking with a strong alignment to Bain’s operating principles.
- Strong teamwork ethos and ability to collaborate inclusively with diverse team members.
- Demonstrated potential for developing and coaching junior team members; direct management experience in consulting or an operating line is preferred.
- Analytical and data-driven mindset with aptitude for creative, quantitative, and qualitative problem solving.
- Undergraduate or Master’s degree from a top-tier university in a relevant field (e.g., computer science, engineering, business management, information systems).
- MBA and top-tier consulting experience are preferred but not required.
Pay
Compensation for this role includes base salary, an annual discretionary performance bonus, a 401(k) plan with an annual employer contribution based on years of service (4.5% starting, increasing after 3 years, and 100% vested upon start date), and a comprehensive benefits package.
In New York City, NY, and Boston, Massachusetts, the estimated annualized full-time base salary range for this role is $170,000 - $190,000. Placement within this range varies based on experience, education, licensure, certifications, training, and skill level. For all other locations, the salary range is commensurate with competitive geographic market rates and will vary based on similar factors.
