Who You’ll Work With

The Technology Insights Group (TIG) at Bain & Company is a rapidly growing global team of world-class technologists. We partner with leading Private Equity (PE) investors and their tech-enabled portfolio companies as technical advisors in investment processes. Our work includes product and technology due diligence engagements and value creation assignments, leveraging deep expertise in software and commercial environments specific to tech-enabled businesses.

The Global Technology Insights Group consists of technology-savvy consultants and former CTOs and CPOs from leading global technology and software companies, combining decades of advising and operating experience. The team has completed over 400 product and technology diligences and value creation engagements worldwide. Over the past five years, we’ve supported clients on some of the most visible technology investments in the U.S. and Europe, including several of the global Top 2024 & 2025 software deals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technology due diligence and value creation workstreams and analyses for PE investors targeting software businesses.
  • Actively contribute across the entire client engagement, from formulating the project scope to building and presenting the final report.
  • Drive and support primary and secondary research efforts; collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data from diverse sources.
  • Conduct hypothesis-led problem solving, communicate complex ideas, and approach problems strategically.
  • Develop and communicate recommendations and insights to the project team, PE investors, and technology leaders.
  • Invest in special initiatives and projects that help scale the practice (e.g., operations, systems).

What We Look For

This role requires a minimum of three days per week working in person, either at a client location or your Bain home office. Travel is required, with frequency and destinations varying based on project needs.

  • Passion for software: Demonstrate enthusiasm for software and the broader tech industry (e.g., digital transformation, disruptive business models).
  • Experience: 2+ years in a software or technology-related role or industry; technical due diligence experience and/or a technical background in a PE firm is strongly preferred.
  • Technical aptitude: Ability to rapidly absorb and interpret technical information with an inquisitive, eager-to-learn mindset.
  • Client service orientation and EQ: Passion for delivering high-impact client results in a fast-paced environment, with exceptional interpersonal skills and emotional agility to interface across all levels at Bain and client organizations.
  • Communication: Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and teamwork: Desire to join a rapidly growing startup within a leading strategy consulting firm, with entrepreneurial, curious, and innovative thinking. Strong alignment with Bain’s operating principles and a collaborative ethos to work inclusively with diverse teams.
  • Analytical capabilities: Analytical and data-driven mindset with aptitude for creative, quantitative, and qualitative problem solving.
  • Education: Undergraduate degree from a top-tier university in a relevant field (e.g., computer science, engineering, business management, information systems).

Pay

Compensation for this role includes base salary, an annual discretionary performance bonus, a 401(k) plan with an annual employer contribution based on years of service (4.5% starting, increasing after 3 years, and 100% vested upon start date), and Bain’s comprehensive benefits package.

Some local governments require a good-faith salary range for open roles. The estimated annualized base salary range for this role is:

  • New York, NY and Boston, MA: $120,000 - $140,000 (placement within this range varies based on experience, education, licensure/certifications, training, and skill level).
  • All other locations: Commensurate with competitive geographic market rates, varying based on experience, education, licensure/certifications, training, and skill level.

This role may also be eligible for other elements of discretionary compensation.
