Who You’ll Work With
You will join the Technology Insights Group (TIG) at Bain & Company, a rapidly growing global team of world-class technologists. TIG works with leading Private Equity (PE) investors and their tech-enabled portfolio companies as technical advisors in investment processes. We conduct product and technology due diligence engagements and value creation assignments, leveraging extensive expertise in software and commercial environments specific to tech-enabled businesses.
The Global Technology Insights Group consists of technology-savvy consultants and former CTOs and CPOs of leading global technology and software companies, with decades of advising and operating experience. The team has completed 400+ product and technology diligences and value creation engagements worldwide, supporting clients on high-profile technology investments, including several of the Top 2025 software deals. Engagements span enterprise applications, vertical applications (HCIT, FinTech, EdTech), infrastructure software, cloud software, and tech-enabled services (IT services, e-commerce, AdTech).
Responsibilities
- Lead and drive technology due diligence and value creation assignments on behalf of PE investors targeting software businesses.
- Actively contribute across the entire client engagement, from formulating the project scope to building and presenting the final report.
- Drive and support primary and secondary research efforts; collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data from various sources.
- Conduct hypothesis-led problem solving, communicate complex ideas, and approach problems strategically.
- Develop and communicate recommendations and insights to the project team, PE investors, and technology leaders.
- Invest in special initiatives and projects that help scale the practice (e.g., operations/systems).
Requirements
- Minimum of three days per week working in person, either at a client location or at your Bain home office.
- Travel is required; frequency and destinations will vary based on project needs.
- Passion for transformation, an entrepreneurial spirit, empathy, and technical aptitude.
Qualifications
- Passion for software: Demonstrate a passion for software and the tech industry (e.g., digital transformation, disruptive business models).
- Experience: 3+ years in a software or technology-related position or industry; technical due diligence experience and/or technical background in a PE firm is strongly preferred.
- Technical aptitude: Ability to rapidly absorb and interpret technical information; inquisitive mindset and eagerness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
- Client service orientation and EQ: Passion for delivering high-impact client results; exceptional interpersonal skills and emotional agility to interface across all levels at Bain and client organizations; outstanding oral and written communication skills.
- Entrepreneurial mindset and teamwork: Desire to join a rapidly growing startup within a leading strategy consulting firm; entrepreneurial, curious, creative, and innovative thinking; strong alignment with Bain operating principles; ability to work inclusively with team members of diverse skills and backgrounds.
- Management potential: Demonstrated potential for developing and coaching junior team members; direct management experience in consulting or an operating line is preferred.
- Analytical capabilities: Analytical and data-driven mindset; aptitude for creative, quantitative, and qualitative problem solving.
- Education: Undergraduate/Master’s degree from a top-tier university in a relevant field (e.g., computer science, engineering, business management, information systems). MBA and top-tier consulting experience preferred but not required.
Pay
The estimated annualized full-time base salary range for this role is:
- New York City, NY and Boston, Massachusetts: $170,000 - $190,000.
- All other locations: Commensurate with competitive geographic market rates.
Placement within this range will vary based on experience, education, licensure/certifications, training, and skill level. This role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary performance bonus and other elements of discretionary compensation.
