About the Role

Our Kennesaw Civil Team is seeking an Experienced Civil Engineer to work out of our Kennesaw, GA office. The successful candidate will provide local technical assistance for the design, development, and construction of infrastructure projects and systems in the public and private sector. Tasks include basic assistance with research, design, concept development, and construction of roads, buildings, tunnels, dams, bridges, water supply systems, and sewage treatment.

Generates accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned aspects of the project. Ensures responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare comprehensive land development/site civil design documents including demolition plans, site layout, grading plans, utility design, erosion control plans, and storm water management design.
  • Develop conceptual site layouts and preliminary design plans to support feasibility assessments, proposals, and client presentations.
  • Assist with the preparation of technical reports outlining methodology, findings, calculations, basis of design, and due diligence studies to evaluate zoning, environmental constraints, infrastructure availability, and local governance codes.
  • Support permitting efforts and coordination with regulatory agencies and plan reviewers to ensure timely approvals and compliance with local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from physical work sites, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, geotechnical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.
  • Perform basic to intermediate professional civil engineering work, including research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, infrastructure, and transportation channels to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and permits.
  • Provide intermediate-level technical support on design strategies prioritizing safety, sustainability, operational efficiency, and compliance with regulations.
  • Assist in verifying site characteristics and providing technical input on engineering, design, and construction challenges.
  • Produce complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems, drawings, and field/work site logs.
  • Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures, including location data, statistical documentation, engineering studies, and surveys.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline from an ABET-accredited university.
  • 3-5 years of relevant post-education experience in site civil and land development.
  • Experience in site design for utilities, industrial facilities, municipal infrastructure, storm drainage and stormwater management, site grading, roadway and utility design, sanitary sewer design and analysis, construction specification development, and construction bid packages.
  • Experience using Autodesk Civil 3D and associated design extensions such as Storm Sewers, Hydrograph, and Hydraflow Express.
  • Excellent research skills with an analytical mindset.
  • Knowledge of relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision and as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Familiarity with additional discipline-specific design software outside of AutoDesk AutoCAD Civil3D (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HY-8, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS).
  • Previous college internship and post-university experience related to site/civil engineering and land development.
  • Active membership in local professional practice organizations such as ASCE, ACEC, NSPE, or similar.
