Experienced 911 Dispatcher
About the role
We are seeking experienced 9-1-1 Dispatchers to join our team. Ideal candidates have experience handling 9-1-1 and police, fire, and/or EMS dispatch.
Responsibilities
- Communicate with the public and public safety entities via telephone and radio
- Rapidly and accurately process information and prioritize responses
- Maintain detailed records of actions and respond promptly
- Provide standardized emergency telephone procedures to callers
- Process radio communications for public safety responders
- Aid in disaster response and preparedness
- Maintain thorough knowledge of operational and administrative rules, regulations, and procedures
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with emergency response personnel
- Recommend operational procedures to the supervisor
- Identify and report equipment problems and outages
- Support the Database Technician in database maintenance
- Drive to the Emergency Operations Center, backup Communications Center, or alternate locations during emergencies
- Work overtime and outside of typical work schedule/business hours as required
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Familiarity with computers and basic computer applications
- Keyboarding experience
- CPR/AED certification (optional but preferred)
- APCO PST1 certification (optional but preferred)
- Emergency medical dispatch certification (optional but preferred)
- Must meet and maintain all required licenses and certifications as a continued condition of employment
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

Qualifications

Benefits
Delaware offers a great atmosphere and benefits, including advanced step placement for pay and prior public service credit for higher vacation earning placements. A shift differential of $1.00 per hour is paid for second and third shift hours.
Pay
Pay is commensurate with experience: 1+ Years = $31.02 an hour
2+ Years = $32.43 an hour
3+ Years = $33.88 an hour
4+ Years = $36.42 an hour
Schedule
DELCOMM is a 24 hours a day, 365 days a year operation. Staff may be required to work irregular hours, including night shifts, weekends, and holidays. Shifts are determined biannually based on seniority.
Selection Process
- Job post closes on July 19th
- Candidates must view an informational video and fill out a survey by July 22nd
- Candidates must complete Critical Testing by July 26th
- Select candidates will receive interview times in the first week of August
- Selected candidates will receive their offer for a targeted start date of August 24th
Training Process
- Phase 1 – Classroom Training
- Phase 2 – Call taking in the 911 center
- Phase 3 – Fire Dispatching
- Phase 4 – Law Enforcement Dispatching
- Phase 5 – Independent/Evaluation Only
