Responsibilities
- Manage and grow an Illinois book of business while acquiring new business focused on Technology Middle Market insurance customers.
- Analyze customers’ business information and claims history, and monitor clients’ activities to adjust policies as risks evolve.
- Evaluate acceptability of individual risks and determine overall acceptability of risk, coverage terms, and pricing to achieve company profit objectives.
- Work with agents/brokers to develop productive and profitable relationships while ensuring compliance with company underwriting guidelines and insurance regulators.
- Maintain profitable results by achieving high premium retention ratios.
- Handle new and renewal submissions and endorsement requests from agents/producers.
- Document underwriting files to support analysis, coverage terms, and pricing.
- Operate according to underwriting authority as delegated by manager.
- Lead renewal business initiatives for territory, including pricing, premium retention, coverage analysis, loss control, claim service needs, and account stewardship.
- Provide clear instruction and guidance to underwriting support and operations staff.
- Develop sales and marketing skills and strategies to meet financial goals.
- Follow established pricing, underwriting, and documentation protocols set by underwriting management.
- Mentor and coach junior underwriters and underwriting support staff.
- Perform other functions as assigned.
Qualifications
- 3 to 5 years of commercial underwriting experience.
- Knowledge of commercial lines underwriting standards, practices, and rating/pricing methods.
- Experience interpreting coverage forms.
- Negotiation skills.
- Experience selling and/or marketing insurance products and services.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and presentation skills.
- Excellent PC skills and working knowledge of Windows environment.
- A valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance coverage.
Education Requirement: Four-year college degree or equivalent experience.

Pay
Base Salary Range: $120,000–$150,000. Eligible to participate in an annual discretionary bonus. The actual salary will be determined by factors including scope, complexity, location, skills, education, training, credentials, and experience.
Additional Requirements
- Travel: 25%–50%.
- For highly qualified candidates with established relationships within the Illinois Territory, remote work arrangements may be considered. Candidates must be willing and able to travel throughout the territory as needed.
