Job Summary
The Executive Medical Director of Perioperative Services leads the day-to-day operations and strategic direction of the Department of Perioperative Services, working in a dyad relationship with the Vice President of Perioperative Services. This role oversees the daily workflow of Physicians, providers, and perioperative staff.
Job Description
- Physician / Clinical Leadership: Oversees physicians and surgeons involved in perioperative operations and co-management agreements involving surgical specialties. Works in a dyad relationship with the VP of Perioperative Services to ensure proper clinical functioning of the department and development/enforcement of clinical policies and procedures. Helps lead and direct the Perioperative Services Executive Committee (PSEC).
- Medical Staff Office: Works with the Department of Surgery Chief, CMO/VPMS, and Director of Medical Staff Services on matters pertaining to Medical/Dental staff utilizing perioperative services. Partners with the Department of Surgery Chief on matters related to risk management and compliance in perioperative areas. Collaborates with the Department of Surgery Chief in addressing disruptive physician/APP issues.
- Quality Management: Assists in programs to improve clinical quality and patient safety outcomes involving perioperative areas. Works with the perioperative leadership team, physicians/APPs, and the Quality team to enhance the patient experience in perioperative areas.
- Accreditation: Assists with accreditation activities involving perioperative areas.
- Physician Relations: Performs physician relations activities involving perioperative areas, including development of continuing medical education in this area. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Credentials, Licenses
- Graduate of an accredited medical school, board certified/admissible in their specialty.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the practice of surgery or peri-operative medicine.
- Must meet appointment qualifications of the St. Elizabeth Medical/Dental Staff and have an employment relationship with St Elizabeth Physicians or St Elizabeth Healthcare.
Specialized Knowledge
- Demonstrated skills and experience in clinical, educational, and administrative leadership.
- Ability to analyze data and develop recommendations/actions based upon the results.
- Experience in driving change in an organization.
- Past experience in Quality, Patient Safety, Risk Management, and Infection Control improvement activities related to perioperative areas.
- Proven success in building productive working relationships with Nursing and other hospital departments as well as other Medical Staff departments.
