About the role

The Executive Director Inpatient Imaging Services provides strategic, operational, and financial leadership for UCSF’s inpatient imaging enterprise across all inpatient adult & pediatric sites and community inpatient locations.

This leader is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, patient-centered inpatient imaging operations & access that meet UCSF Health’s standards of high reliability, quality, access, and experience while advancing system-wide integration with ambulatory radiology services through a formal dyad partnership with the Executive Director of Ambulatory Access & Services.

Responsibilities

  • Advances system-wide integration with ambulatory radiology services through a formal dyad partnership with the Executive Director of Ambulatory Access & Services
  • Oversees multidisciplinary teams, collaborates with faculty & clinical partners and business unit leaders, drives performance improvement, and ensures sustainable growth aligned with institutional priorities
  • Administers, manages, and plans the staffing, fiscal and material resources
  • Develops and implements new programs and policies
  • Serves as a key operational partner to physician leadership, nursing leadership, and enterprise stakeholders, translating strategic priorities into disciplined execution across inpatient environments
  • Ensures alignment across the full continuum of radiology care—balancing inpatient clinical acuity, throughput, and regulatory demands with ambulatory access, growth, and patient experience strategies
  • Collaborates with leadership and management in Imaging across a broad spectrum of responsibilities
  • Directs and supervises inpatient site-based activities through management and support staff
  • Designs and leads strategic and operational planning for multiple disciplines/modalities in Radiology Imaging Inpatient Services across UCSF Health
  • Participates in the development and administration of clinical and business operations
  • Develops and monitors financial, productivity & key performance metrics that maximize efficiencies and economies of scale across sites and modalities
  • Develops and implements patient care service standards, ensures maintenance of high quality and safety standards for patients and employees, ensures compliance with regulatory agencies, and develops new business strategies to improve performance and increase access & market share
  • Collaborates with the Director of Imaging Quality, Radiation Safety Officer, department physician medical directors, and vice chair of Quality & Safety, to ensure quality & safety initiatives are implemented & sustained

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Licensed technologist or R.N., preferably in a radiology modality
  • Strong hospital management experience, min 10 years, with progressive and in-depth expertise in patient care services
  • Knowledge of hospital / clinic operations in a hospital or medical center setting; knowledge of appropriate professional standards for the department and team
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills to foster and promote an environment for effective communication and collaborative decision making across multiple units and disciplines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing related field
  • Master’s Degree in business, health administration or clinical degree related to radiology
  • Registered Nurse in the State of California
  • Certification in Radiology Nursing (CRN) or related specialty
  • 5+ years of progressive nursing leadership experience, preferably in radiology, procedural, perioperative, or critical care settings
  • Excellent leadership, fiscal and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management and staff from all disciplines
  • Strong knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes
  • Strong knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex operations, staffing models, and clinical workflows in a high-acuity environment
  • Experience with operational improvement, throughput optimization, and lean methodologies

Additional Information

License/Certification: Licensed technologist or R.N., preferably in a radiology modality
