About the role
The Executive Director is the organization’s chief executive and public leader, responsible for strategic leadership, program excellence, financial sustainability, fundraising, compliance, and community and political relations.
Responsibilities
- Providing strategic, mission-driven leadership to advance access to justice throughout the State of Alabama.
- Ensuring delivery of high-quality legal services across throughout the State with diverse programs and service models.
- Serving as the primary public representative of LSA at the local, state, and national levels, including with courts, government agencies, funders, and community partners.
- Leading fundraising efforts for operations, innovation, and capital improvements; engaging directly in major donor cultivation and stewardship.
- Recruiting, developing, and supporting senior leadership and staff; fostering an inclusive, high-performing organizational culture.
- Overseeing fiscal management, long-term financial planning, audits, and risk management.
- Partnering with the Board of Directors to support governance, strategic planning, and fiduciary oversight.
Requirements
LSA seeks an experienced and passionate leader with a proven track record of success in managing complex organizations, particularly those providing legal services to underserved communities. The ideal candidate will have:
- A Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- At least 10 years of progressive experience in legal services, preferably in a non-profit setting.
- Experience leading a team of attorneys and staff.
- Strong financial management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with funders, community partners, and stakeholders.
- Proven ability to develop and implement strategic plans.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must possess:
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.

Pay
Salary range: $120,000 - $150,000 annually.
Schedule
