Job Summary

The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County is seeking an accomplished, visionary executive to lead one of the nation's most innovative regional transportation organizations. Serving nearly 500,000 residents throughout Reno, Sparks, and Washoe County, RTC is nationally recognized for delivering exceptional public transportation, regional planning, and engineering solutions that improve quality of life and support economic growth.

Responsibilities

  • Build upon RTC's impressive reputation while advancing critical priorities including implementation of the 2050 Regional Transportation Plan, securing funding for major transportation improvements, and leading the agency through the relocation of its headquarters.
  • Lead the development and implementation of strategic plans and initiatives that enhance regional transportation services and infrastructure.
  • Manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with local government officials, community leaders, and stakeholders to secure funding and support for transportation projects.
  • Oversee the recruitment, training, and professional development of staff to ensure a skilled and motivated workforce.
  • Represent the organization at various conferences, meetings, and events to promote RTC's mission and achievements.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 4-8 years of experience in transportation planning, engineering, or related field.
  • A bachelor's degree in urban planning, civil engineering, or a related field.
  • A master's degree in a relevant field may be preferred.
  • A current Professional Planner (AICP) designation or willingness to pursue it.
  • Experience with sustainability or climate protection planning.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local transportation policies and procedures.

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Political acumen and ability to navigate complex stakeholder relationships.
  • Financial expertise and experience managing budgets and resources.
  • A demonstrated commitment to fostering innovation and partnership within the organization.

Pay

$180,897 to $321,477 (midpoint is $251,187)
