About the role

A Union County Public Schools (UCPS) Self-Contained Exceptional Children (ECS) Teacher manages a specialized classroom for students with significant cognitive disabilities, often serving approximately 9-12 students with the support of two instructional assistants.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver specialized instruction aligned with Extended Content Standards to meet diverse learning needs.
• Manage a self-contained environment, often with 2 assistants, focusing on student safety and behavior support.
• Develop and implement data collection systems to track progress on IEP goals.
• Work with staff, parents, and administrators to foster student growth.

Qualifications

• Must hold active North Carolina certification in Exceptional Children.
• Experience with Adaptive Curriculum and significant cognitive disabilities is often required.
