About the Role

The Environmental Services Technician I contributes to the effective operations of the Environmental Services department by daily cleaning and supplying of patient rooms, treatment rooms, restrooms, utility rooms, nurseries, nursing stations, lounges, offices, waiting areas, and other assigned areas in accordance with standard policies and procedures.

This role involves using applicable cleaning equipment, products, and supplies, removing trash and linen from the facility, and maintaining a professional image in communication, appearance, and conduct. The technician must also maintain knowledge of departmental standard operating procedures, including specialized equipment, quality control, and preventive maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of general daily cleaning tasks to maintain patient care areas, including isolation rooms, discharges, offices, corridors, bathrooms, and public areas.
• Collect regular trash, regulated medical waste, and soiled linens.
• Vacuum and clean assigned areas of the facility (discharges not to exceed more than 75% of daily shift time).
• Follow designated signs, symbols, and written instructions as trained to ensure safe and high-quality cleaning standards.
• Demonstrate outstanding customer service and "own" successful patient/customer interactions.
• Operate a variety of cleaning equipment such as vacuums, extractors, bovac, and roto machines.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Ability to read, speak, understand, and follow written and verbal directions in English with a basic range of comprehension sufficient for understanding job-specific forms, documents, signs, symbols, and written instructions.
• Ability to recognize and comprehend emergency and urgent situations and communicate effectively so others understand.
• Valid California driver’s license required for those authorized to operate Hoag vehicles.

Qualifications

• Preferred: High School graduate or GED.
• Preferred: Basic computer skills, including the ability to use email and complete computer-based training courses with minimal assistance.
• Preferred: Previous hospital and/or hospitality housekeeping experience.
• Preferred: Experience with the operation of cleaning equipment such as vacuums, extractors, bovac, and roto machines.
