About the role

The Ponca Tribe of Nebraska is a federally recognized Tribe with its ancestral homeland located in Niobrara, NE. The Tribe offers a broad range of health, social, educational, and cultural services within its Service Delivery Area of 15 counties across Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota. Under the direction of the Maintenance Coordinator, the Environmental Services (EVS) Attendant performs cleaning duties to maintain a clean and safe environment, with a focus on clinical spaces and patient care areas. This position assists maintenance staff as needed and supports the overall operations of the Facilities Management department.

Responsibilities

• Keeps buildings, with prioritization of clinical spaces and patient care areas, in clean, presentable, and orderly condition by performing cleaning and disinfecting activities.
• Maintains the cleanliness and appearance of floors by sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and cleaning carpets per schedule and as needed.
• Strips, waxes, and buffs/polishes hard floor surfaces.
• Washes interior surfaces such as walls, ceilings, windows, glass partitions, and doors using appropriate supplies and equipment.
• Cleans all bathrooms, kitchens, lobbies, conference rooms, workspaces, and individual office areas.
• Empties waste receptacles and disposes of refuse.
• Dusts and polishes furniture.
• Maintains an organized and clean storage space for cleaning supplies and equipment.
• Performs outside duties including washing windows/doors, cleaning building exteriors, sweeping walkways, cleaning handrails, door handles, and picking up trash.
• Removes spots from carpets and furniture.
• Cleans all spills, including bodily fluids, in compliance with OSHA, CDC, HIPAA, and bloodborne pathogen protocols.
• Properly handles and disposes of waste in compliance with safety standards.
• Cleans and disinfects all fixtures and surfaces in restrooms, full kitchens (including microwaves and refrigerators), sinks, shower facilities, and drinking fountains per cleaning schedule/checklist.
• Fills paper, soap, and toiletries dispensers in restrooms and other designated areas.
• Maintains cleaning logs/checklists for patient care and high-traffic areas.
• Ensures all windows and exterior doors are locked in the evenings.
• Assists with moving furniture and unloading and storing supplies.
• Reports maintenance issues (e.g., plumbing leaks, damaged flooring, lighting failures) promptly to the supervisor.
• Assists with emergency preparedness activities, including weather-related events and infectious disease response.
• Maintains a professional appearance and provides courteous interactions with patients, visitors, and staff.
• Participates in annual infection control, safety, and HIPAA training.
• Opens and closes buildings as requested and may provide onsite monitoring during activities outside of normal office hours.
• Sets up chairs, tables, and equipment for meetings, activities, and events.
• Cleans up after special events or activities, returning workspaces to their proper layout.
• Must be flexible in work scheduling to meet the demands of the position.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• One year of related experience.
• Ability to perform physical labor and follow oral and written instructions.
• Knowledge of the use of commercial cleaning agents, including solvents, disinfectants, detergents, and polishing agents.
• Knowledge of standard custodial practices, procedures, and techniques.
• Knowledge of types and uses of materials, tools, and equipment used in building custodial work.
• HIPAA training or ability to complete training within 90 days of hire.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
• Successfully pass drug and alcohol testing, motor vehicle, education, character, and criminal background checks.
• Able and willing to travel.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to operate carpet extractors, floor buffers, and various cleaning equipment.
• Knowledge of healthcare/medical-grade disinfectants and cleaning products.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Healthcare cleaning experience.
• Computer proficiency with email, Microsoft Word, and Excel programs.
• One or more years’ experience working with Native Americans or Native American organizations.
• Ability to safely and effectively operate floor scrubbers, buffers, carpet extractors, vacuums, and pressure washers.
• Preference will be given to Ponca Tribe of Nebraska members or members of a federally recognized tribe.

Pay

Grade 6 ($15.65 - $24.94 per hour)

Schedule

Full-time, non-exempt position. Must be flexible in work scheduling to meet the demands of the position, including occasional work outside of normal office hours.

Working Environment and Physical Demands

• Physical requirements include carrying/lifting up to 10 pounds frequently, up to 20 pounds regularly, and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Requires visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination, and manual dexterity to operate cleaning equipment and basic office tools.
• Subject to carrying, lifting, twisting, and reaching to perform essential job functions.
• Working conditions are primarily indoors with occasional travel to other locations.
• Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, high or precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, dirt, dust, bloodborne pathogens, medical waste, and cleaning materials.
• Complies with safety standard protocols and maintains confidentiality in health and bloodborne pathogen-related tasks.
• Maintains patient privacy by adhering to HIPAA requirements when working in medical areas.
