EVS Attendant - Closing Date: 9/4/26

Grade 6 ($15.65 - $24.94), full-time, non-exempt position located in Omaha.

About the role

The Ponca Tribe of Nebraska is a federally recognized Tribe offering a broad range of health, social, educational, and cultural services within its 15-county Service Delivery Area across Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota. Under the direction of the Maintenance Coordinator, the Environmental Services (EVS) Attendant performs cleaning of all assigned areas, prioritizing clinical spaces and patient-care environments, and assists maintenance staff as requested.

Responsibilities

• Keep buildings—especially clinical/patient-care areas—in clean, presentable, and orderly condition by sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and cleaning carpets per schedule.
• Strip, wax, buff, and polish hard floor surfaces.
• Wash interior surfaces (walls, ceilings, windows, glass partitions, doors) using appropriate supplies and equipment.
• Clean all bathrooms, kitchens, lobbies, conference rooms, workspaces, and individual offices.
• Empty waste receptacles and dispose of refuse.
• Dust and polish furniture; maintain organized storage for cleaning supplies and equipment.
• Perform outside duties: wash windows/doors, clean building exteriors, sweep walkways, clean handrails, door handles, and pick up trash.
• Remove spots from carpets and furniture; clean all spills, including bodily fluids, in compliance with OSHA, CDC, HIPAA, and bloodborne pathogen protocols.
• Properly handle and dispose of waste according to safety standards.
• Clean and disinfect restroom fixtures, full kitchens (microwave, refrigerator, sinks), shower facilities, and drinking fountains per cleaning schedule/checklist.
• Fill paper, soap, and toiletries dispensers in restrooms and designated areas.
• Maintain cleaning logs/checklists for patient-care and high-traffic areas.
• Ensure all windows and exterior doors are locked in the evenings.
• Assist with moving furniture and unloading/storing supplies.
• Report maintenance issues (plumbing leaks, damaged flooring, lighting failures) promptly to supervisor.
• Assist with emergency preparedness activities, including weather-related events and infectious disease response.
• Maintain professional appearance and provide courteous interactions with patients, visitors, and staff.
• Participate in annual infection control, safety, and HIPAA training.
• Open and close buildings as requested; provide onsite monitoring during after-hours activities.
• Set up chairs, tables, and equipment for meetings, activities, and events.
• Clean up after special events, returning workspaces to proper layout.
• Remain flexible in work scheduling to meet time demands.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• One year of related experience.
• Ability to perform physical labor and follow oral/written instructions.
• Knowledge of commercial cleaning agents (solvents, disinfectants, detergents, polishing agents).
• Knowledge of standard custodial practices, procedures, and techniques.
• Knowledge of materials, tools, and equipment used in building custodial work.
• HIPAA training or ability to complete training within 90 days of hire.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license and insurable status.
• Successfully pass drug/alcohol testing, motor vehicle, education, character, and criminal background checks.
• Able and willing to travel.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to operate carpet extractors, floor buffers, and various cleaning equipment.
• Knowledge of healthcare/medical-grade disinfectants and cleaning products.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Healthcare cleaning experience.
• Computer proficiency with email, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
• One or more years’ experience working with Native Americans or Native American organizations.
• Ability to safely and effectively operate floor scrubbers, buffers, carpet extractors, vacuums, and pressure washers.
• Preference given to Ponca Tribe of Nebraska members or members of a federally recognized tribe.

Working Environment & Physical Demands

• Carry/lift up to 10 pounds frequently, up to 20 pounds regularly, and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Visual acuity, speech, hearing, hand-eye coordination, and manual dexterity required to operate equipment and perform duties.
• Primarily office environment with occasional travel to other locations.
• Occasional exposure to wet/humid conditions, high/precarious places, fumes, airborne particles, dirt, dust, bloodborne pathogens, medical waste, and cleaning materials.
• Compliance with safety standards and HIPAA requirements when working in medical areas.
