Job Summary
The Director, Event Services leads the planning, coordination and execution of T-Mobile Center events to ensure they are safe, organized and successfully delivered. This role leads the Event Services team, serves as a key contact for clients and internal partners, and oversees event readiness, communication, budgets and issue resolution.
Leadership & Staff Management
- Provide direct supervision, coaching, training, and performance management for Event Coordinator staff.
- Assign events and workloads based on department priorities, employee experience levels, and event complexity.
- Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance evaluations, and professional development planning for direct reports.
- Mentor Event Coordinators on client relationship management, event planning best practices, venue policies, and operational procedures.
- Participate in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and retention efforts for Event Services personnel.
- Foster a collaborative, service-oriented culture focused on operational excellence, teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Provide leadership coverage and decision-making support during major events and departmental initiatives.
Event Management (Development, Execution)
- Serve as primary contact for clients of assigned events.
- Determine and provide what’s needed to ensure events are successful and goals are accomplished.
- Maintain positive rapport and form strong client and tenant relationships.
- Compile and communicate event requirements to various departments at T-Mobile Center.
- Direct and delegate responsibilities by preparing and distributing detailed production notes for each event and scheduling a production meeting with the venue’s department heads (e.g., operations, security, food & beverage, broadcast, marketing, box office, group sales, corporate sales and event services).
- Manage the operations, rehearsals and execution of events and entertainment in compliance with the expectations of T-Mobile Center management.
- Develop and maintain relationships with local vendors.
- Hire, train and manage vendors and event staff as necessary, including scheduling of production runners, stagehands and riggers.
- Implement facility rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Ensure contractual obligations are met for each event.
- Manage, maintain and organize event files, which include all pertinent information for venue's events.
Budget & Financial Management
- Develop, monitor, and manage the Event Services departmental operating budget.
- Track departmental expenditures and identify opportunities for cost control and operational efficiencies.
- Review event estimates, settlements, invoices, and event-related expenses to ensure financial accuracy and contractual compliance.
- Partner with Finance and Operations leadership to support forecasting, annual budget planning, and financial reporting.
- Monitor event profitability and assist with revenue and expense analysis related to venue operations.
- Ensure department resources are allocated effectively while maintaining high levels of service and operational readiness.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum education level of: BA/BS Degree (4-year)
- Years of related work experience: 3-5, including planning and managing special events (preferably arena productions and other live entertainment events).
- Previous experience supervising, leading, mentoring, or managing event planning personnel.
- Must be resourceful, a quick learner, and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Must be able to operate within designated budget.
- Exceptional guest and client service capabilities.
- Enterprising and self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work well with different personalities in a fast-paced environment and constant deadlines.
- Extremely organized and detail-oriented.
- Exceptional interpersonal and telephone skills.
- Ability to work extended hours, evenings and weekends and holidays.
- Ability to access and accurately input information using a moderately complex computer system.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to read, listen and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to move about venue for extended periods of time.
- Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous management experience within an arena, stadium, convention center, theater, performing arts venue, or large public assembly facility.
- Experience managing event management professionals and developing high-performing teams.
- Experience with budget forecasting, financial analysis, and departmental planning.
- AutoCAD experience preferred.
