The Event Security position is responsible for ensuring the safety and security for all events. Special security assignments may be available during non-event days/nights. About The Venue

This position is based at our Stormont Vail Events Center. The 80-acre site in the center of Topeka now known as the Stormont Vail Events Center has a long history of use for activities related to agriculture, farming, exhibitions, education, and entertainment. Stormont Vail Events Center is a 10,000-seat multi-purpose arena built in 1987 in Topeka, Kansas. Landon Arena, named for Kansas' elder statesman, Governor Alfred M. Landon (1887–1987), was built in 1987.

Responsibilities

• Monitors and operates closed-circuit surveillance, access control, and fire alarm systems.
• Vets all visitors/contractors, verifies appropriate credentials, and prevents unauthorized access to the premises.
• Patrols all properties as required and ensures, in a friendly and professional manner, the security of employees, contracted building partners, and visitors.
• Detects and resolves immediate safety and criminal issues; responds to the scene of an incident and acts as an emergency first responder if required.
• Acts as property first responder to alarms, medical calls, property damage, etc.
• Maintains absolute confidentiality on sensitive issues.
• Maintains accurate notes and log information as required; ensures that all pass-on information is communicated to the next shift.
• Completes all activity logs, incident reports, repair forms, and other documents in a clear, concise, and legible format in a timely, efficient manner.
• Performs person and package/parcel screening according to policies and procedures.
• Conducts detailed internal investigations into incidents and provides detailed, objective reports for each shift or incident.
• Attends briefing and training sessions to ensure complete knowledge of policies and upcoming events.
• Greet all clients, employees, guests, and vendors in a professional manner.
• Follows established security protocols and procedures at all times.
• Represents the company in a positive and professional manner at all times.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Prior Event Security experience preferred.
• Excellent communication skills required with a thorough understanding of written and spoken English.
• Knowledge and skill in radio communication.
• Ability to listen effectively and take and execute directions as given.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
• Ability to exercise sound judgement to diffuse volatile situations.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Ability to work in a darkened area, around crowds, loud noises, and flashing lights.
• Ability to remain calm and focused in fast-paced environments and stressful situations.
• Ability to work outside, in adverse weather conditions, as needed.
• Ability to direct guests where they need to go, as well as direct them in an emergency.
• Must be able to efficiently screen guests in the form of metal detecting via wands and bag checking.

Pay

This role will pay an hourly rate of $13.00 - $15.00.
