About the Department
The Division of Development and Alumni Relations at the University of Georgia advances the goals, objectives, and priorities of the university by generating private financial support, building and maintaining relationships with alumni and donors, and assisting students with career development opportunities.
The mission of the Office of Special Events (OSE) is to design, develop, and manage special events that showcase the University of Georgia's excellence and promote advocacy and support for its programs.
About the Role
The individual in this position reports to, and will work in coordination with, the Executive Director of Special Events. The Event Manager will strategically develop, structure, and implement special University functions and events from pre- through post-planning, including developing and managing event budgets. The position requires coordinating and overseeing the work of subordinates involved in event planning, such as food services, security, and entertainment. The individual must serve as a liaison between the Office of Special Events, University Administration, and other departments to establish efficient communication during all stages of event implementation.
Responsibilities
- Strategic development, coordination, and facilitation of distinct high-level complex institutional events, including autonomy in making final decisions regarding budget, venues, vendors, programming, and all event logistics, including completing/signing contracts. (60%)
- Staff the President at events on and off campus, assisting with advising on roles and any onsite needs. (20%)
- Advise other units across campus on university event protocol and event procedures; lead planning committees that include other university units and external partners. (10%)
- Provide quality control of items produced by administrative staff, student staff, and vendors that represent events and the University. (10%)
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent and 2 years of professional experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, adjust to change, assess priorities, and track details in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work well independently and collaboratively with a team.
- Demonstrated computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Commitment to outstanding customer service and ability to work with a variety of personality types.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel in and out of state as needed.
- Ability to work nights and weekends as necessary.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 5+ years of related experience in event coordination.

Pay
Advertised salary: $55,000+ commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Schedule
Full-time position with a work schedule of 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
