Iliad · Indiana, United States · 6 days ago
Management$80k–$130k/yrFull-time

Location: Remote (Global) or in-person (Berkeley, CA or London, UK). Frequent travel within the US and UK, and possibly other countries.

About Iliad

Iliad is a nonprofit dedicated to advancing foundational AI alignment research. We run the Iliad Intensive, the Iliad Fellowship, and a range of conferences that bring together researchers working on the hardest problems in AI safety. We also incubate research organizations and an academic journal, and have an internal research team. We're a small and quickly growing team.

About the Role

As Iliad’s event manager, you’ll own the execution of events ranging from 200-person conferences to 30-person workshops and small retreats. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Own event operations including attendee invitations and communications, venue, catering, vendor management, and onsite logistics.
  • Track expenses and ensure events are delivered within budget.
  • Manage multiple events in different planning stages without losing track of details; flag conflicting timelines and capacity shortfalls.
  • Coordinate with other stakeholders to ensure planning aligns with events’ goals and Iliad’s overall strategy and mission.
  • For larger events, manage additional event staff and volunteers.
  • Build systems to streamline and improve event operations.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of event operations experience, owning logistics end-to-end (planning timelines, vendor/venue coordination, budgets, and onsite execution).
  • Ability to operate independently, manage ambiguity, and make judgment calls under pressure.
  • Willingness to travel frequently within the US, UK, and EU. We expect most events to happen in the Bay Area or near London but will also occasionally host events in other locations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Comfortable working with tools like Google Workspace, Notion, and Airtable; comfort using AI assistants like Claude for drafting and workflows.
  • Comfort working with distributed teams and working remotely.
  • Genuine interest in AI alignment is a strong plus but not required.

Benefits

  • Time Off: 25 days paid vacation annually.
  • Flexible Working Hours: We're a distributed organization with employees in a variety of locations and offer flexible working hours.
  • Team Retreats: Occasional in-person team retreats.

Pay

$80,000 - $130,000 depending on experience and location.
