Evening Librarian

Description The Putney School seeks an hourly, part-time, evening library assistant to work from 6:00 pm. to 9:30 p.m., on Mondays and/or Fridays. The evening librarian supervises the library during the evening hours between dinner and in-dorms. They assist students with their reference needs, maintain an atmosphere conducive to studying, and process and shelve books. Essential Duties Supervises the library during evening hours often overseeing as many as 70 teenagers while maintaining an atmosphere that is supportive of evening studyBasic library circulation tasks including shelving and shelf readingNew book processing (covering, basic cataloging)Reference desk assistanceBasic computer and copier troubleshootingMonitors the checkout desk and maintains inventory control Requirements Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in a school library Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree and, experience in a school library Knowledge, Skills, Attributes, And Abilities A friendly presence and helpful attitude; excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others. The ability to handle constantly changing flow of traffic; be able to prioritize effectively during busy times, exercise patience and professionalism during stressful situations. Physical Requirements Ability to shelve and reorganize books, which sometimes requires standing for long periods of time, and pushing a cart of books as well as reaching to the top shelf of library shelvingAbility to do computer work for extended periods of time Management reserves the right to change or add to this job description at any time.
