About the role
The Evening Circulation Librarian provides library services to the community Sunday–Thursday evenings and oversees the day-to-day and long-term wellbeing of the library’s physical and intellectual holdings.
Responsibilities
- Create a welcoming atmosphere and assist community members during evening and study hours (Sunday–Thursday, 2 pm–10 pm).
- Enforce library rules and behavioral norms during study hours.
- Plan and coordinate annual collection shifting with the Library Director to rebalance shelving.
- Manage New Book shelving, updating electronic records to reflect physical location changes.
- Adjust signage as needed or directed by the Library Director.
- Collaborate with the library team to create displays of books and materials tied to educational programs or seasonal events.
- Sweep the library for misplaced or used materials and reshelve them.
- Coordinate shelf reading and biennial inventory of all circulating items.
- Maintain Summer School/TEC library cards and login information.
- Assist community members with locating materials, accessing electronic resources, conducting research, printing, and other library requests.
- Retrieve and maintain reserve materials for library projects.
- Run reports on checked-out items, verify overdue status, and coordinate returns with patrons.
- Submit billable items to the business office.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Library Director.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (degrees in History, Sociology, or the sciences preferred).
- Experience in a school, college, or public library.
- Strong desire to work with high school students from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Close attention to detail and ability to work in a noisy, user-centered environment.
- Good communication and computer/technological skills, with a willingness to learn new role-related skills.
- Ability to work well with others.
