ACCO Engineered Systems is one of the largest mechanical contractors in the country. ACCO is dedicated to the design, fabrication, installation, maintenance and service of commercial and industrial HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, process piping, and building automation systems. About the Role
The Estimator II prepares accurate, competitive cost estimates for small to mid-sized projects and supports the full bidding cycle. This role is a key contributor to pre-construction, collaborating with internal and external clients to ensure successful project opportunities. The Estimator II also collaborates with junior estimators, supports maintaining estimating tools and databases, and drives continuous improvement initiatives across the business.
Responsibilities
- Lead preparation of detailed material, labor, and cost estimates for small to mid-sized projects with minimal supervision.
- Collaborate on mid-sized to large projects with estimating leadership or Project Manager.
- Provide support to Project Managers for project estimates and budgets.
- Assist with change order estimating, compilation, and negotiation, including material and equipment buyouts, and project turnover on assigned projects.
- Coordinate pre-construction job meetings with department heads and supervisors.
- Review project plans, specifications, and site conditions to assess project scope and requirements.
- Participate in site visits, pre-bid meetings, and bid proposals to understand project requirements.
- Collaborate with Engineering, BIM/Detailing, Fabrication, Purchasing, and Field Operations.
- Work closely with project managers, design teams, and subcontractors to ensure estimates align with project scope and schedule.
- Contribute to special studies, committees, and training to advance the company’s technical abilities in estimating and installation procedures.
- Review peer estimates and takeoffs, and collaborate with junior team members.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, estimating standards, and safety regulations.
- Attend training courses related to estimating methods and software utilized.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3–6 years of estimating experience in the construction industry.
- Ability to work independently and autonomously while knowing when to consult with others.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Proficient in Bluebeam software.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, including building spreadsheets and using formulas effectively.
- Proficient in third-party estimating software systems.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
- Bachelor’s degree in construction, engineering, or related field (desired).

Schedule
- Exempt position.
- Workdays: Monday through Friday.
- Typical work hours: 7:00 am to 5:00 pm (as scheduled with supervisor).
- Occasional overtime may be necessary for business needs.
Travel Requirements
Travel to offices, shops, or job sites may be required 10-20% of the time.
Physical Demands
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
- Prolonged sitting.
- Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
Pay
Competitive wage ranging from $65,000 to $88,750 annually. Actual compensation is determined by factors unique to each candidate, including job-related skills, depth of experience, certifications, relevant education or training, and specific work location.
