Estimator I

About the role

The Estimator I will learn fenestration products, terminology, and quoting tools to prepare Regular Production cost estimates for projects based on customer-supplied takeoffs. This role involves quoting basic systems, standard configurations, and repetitive or stock-length systems while training under a senior estimator (Level II or III). The goal is to develop an understanding of product limitations, performance requirements, basic anchoring for installation, manufacturing practices, material identifiers, and cost-estimating procedures.

Responsibilities

• Supports the Estimating Team with data entry, quote formatting, and quote document preparation.
• Evaluates customer requests for quotation (RFQ) to identify incomplete information or risks; escalates non-standard requests to a mentor (Estimator II or III).
• Self-schedules workload based on requested due dates and available capacity, depending on brand and region.
• Creates formal quotes/bids and related documents for standard quotes with moderate supervision.
• Maintains and revises quote cost data and records based on changing conditions, methods, and other factors.
• Develops a basic understanding of aluminum extrusions, hardware, glass types, and standard system depths.
• Learns to use internal pricing tools, methods, and processes.
• Obtains quotes from outside suppliers for standard buyout materials as required.
• Learns to use structural engineering tools to assess product requirements, including structural, thermal, and performance limitations.
• Gains competency in pricing processes and systems to manage multiple quotes simultaneously with accuracy.
• Learns to read and interpret project specifications and architectural drawings as required for pricing processes.

Requirements

• 2-year technical degree or related experience preferred.
• 1-2 years of estimating or closely related manufacturing/construction experience.

Work Environment
