Estimator - General Contractor

Location: Chicago, IL

Salary: $120,000 - $180,000 (Depending on experience)

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for commercial construction projects.
• Review drawings, specifications, and project requirements to develop accurate budgets and proposals.
• Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate subcontractor and supplier pricing.
• Analyze project risks, scope gaps, and constructability concerns.
• Participate in project handoff meetings with operations and project management teams.
• Assist in the preparation of bid packages, proposals, and presentations.
• Maintain estimating databases, cost histories, and market pricing information.
• Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, architects, engineers, and clients throughout the preconstruction process.
• Identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving solutions without compromising quality.

Requirements

• 3+ years of estimating experience with a general contractor.
• Experience with corporate interiors, office buildouts, tenant improvement, or commercial renovation projects preferred.
• Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and building systems.
• Proficiency with estimating software, Microsoft Excel, and construction management tools.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
