Escrow Specialist
About the role
The Escrow Specialist plays a critical role in the day-to-day operations of Compass, a real estate industry leader founded in 2012. You will be responsible for administering the day-to-day aspects of the company's escrow account, including incoming and outgoing funds, processing intercompany transfers, investigating account discrepancies, and managing customer service aspects.
Responsibilities
- Reconcile, allocate, and release escrow and commission payments.
- Maintain escrow activities, including funds management (incoming and outgoing), resolution of account discrepancies, and account reconciliations.
- Process outgoing third-party payments (Pass-Throughs) as per agents' requests in relation to sales and rental closings.
- Support agents in response to inquiries regarding third-party payments (Pass-Throughs).
- Request stop payments on agent commission checks and process wire payments when necessary.
- Collaborate with the accounting team on account reconciliations and monthly analytics.
- Assist the Accounting team to research and respond to inquiries impacting the monthly financial statement.
- Support with annual financial audit and compliance audit requirements.
- Provide support to agents in response to inquiries regarding commission payouts, deductions, and calculations.
- Perform special projects as assigned.
- Collaborate with the Product & Engineering Team to help build a better real estate transaction system.
Requirements
Preferred qualifications include a B.A. or B.S. degree, 3+ years of experience in an accounting or payroll function, strong teamwork skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, proficiency in Excel and Google Suite, impeccable attention to detail, and solid customer service instincts. Prior experience in real estate is preferred.
Qualifications
Essential qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, and the ability to work out of the following Compass offices located in Lincoln Park, one day, every other week, and occasional visits to other IL offices for special events if needed.
Skills
Proficiency in Excel and Google Suite, strong written, quantitative, and verbal skills, and impeccable attention to detail are essential. Strong teamwork skills and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment are also required.

Pay
The base pay range for this position is $27 - $30 per hour, with bonuses and restricted stock units as part of the compensation package. Base pay is based on market location and minimum wage will always be met.
