EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST (VERTICAL TRANSPORATION EQUIPMENT)

Duties

• Apply extensive practical knowledge of electronics, electrical, hydraulic, hoisting, mechanical, and wire rope fields, with experience in maintenance.
• Utilize knowledge of construction contract management as it specifically applies to elevators, escalators, dumbwaiters, and other vertical transportation equipment.
• Locate and accurately analyze abnormal conditions or problems—actual or potential—such as inadequate safety interlocks, improper design, poor performance, or ASME/ANSI Safety Code violations.
• Apply knowledge of basic mathematics, including algebra and geometry, to perform engineering calculations related to vertical transportation equipment inspections.
• Provide technical information and advice to those who design, test, produce, procure, supply, operate, repair, or dispose of vertical transportation equipment (VTE).
• Generate detailed inspection reports assessing equipment condition, safety code compliance deficiencies, and make recommendations for modifications to improve safety, efficiency, and lifespan of the equipment.

Requirements

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-09) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must include:

• Extensive practical knowledge of electronics, electrical, hydraulic, hoisting, mechanical, and wire rope fields, with experience in maintenance and construction contract management as it applies to elevators, escalators, dumbwaiters, and other vertical transportation equipment.
• Ability to locate and analyze abnormal conditions or problems—actual or potential—such as inadequate safety interlocks, improper design, poor performance, or ASME/ANSI Safety Code violations.
• Knowledge of basic mathematics, including algebra and geometry, to perform engineering calculations for vertical transportation equipment inspections.
• Ability to provide technical information and advice to stakeholders involved in the design, testing, production, procurement, supply, operation, repair, or disposal of VTE equipment.
• Experience generating detailed inspection reports assessing equipment condition, safety code compliance deficiencies, and making recommendations for modifications to improve safety, efficiency, and equipment lifespan.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills that translate directly to paid employment.

Qualifications

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or a combination of education and experience:

• A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or
• Three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, or an LL.M., if related.

A transcript must be submitted with your application if qualifying using education.
