Equipment Service Technician I (Floater)
About the Role
This is a remote-based, customer-facing position primarily working inside hospitals. You will troubleshoot and repair medical equipment used in surgical procedures, as well as provide installation support for complex mechanical, electromechanical, and electronic units. The role requires daily travel by driving a company vehicle and is safety-sensitive.
Individuals with experience in HVAC repair, mechanics, maintenance, refrigeration, boilers, chillers, equipment repair, diesel and automotive repair, aviation repair, plumbing, or electrical work are often successful in this role.
This is a floating position requiring heavy travel, up to 75% of the time, including overnight travel Monday–Friday and some weekends. Travel will be within Fresno, Bakersfield, Northern Los Angeles, and the central coast.
If offered this position, STERIS will run a 7-year driving record check. An acceptable driving record generally means limited moving violations, accidents, or driving-related convictions.
Responsibilities
- Perform fundamental troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance of STERIS and competitor equipment, systems, and components.
- Manage time effectively by prioritizing customer and business needs to complete preventive maintenance, service calls, warranty calls, equipment installations, field upgrade programs, and other duties.
- Work with cross-functional teams (Tech Support, Engineering, and Service Contract Management) to escalate issues and utilize advanced technology platforms for compliance, regulatory requirements, and issue resolution.
- Provide customers with information, pricing, and repair options, and build relationships with sales teams to drive customer experience and revenue opportunities.
- Identify sales opportunities within your assigned territory.
- Provide support to various locations within your assigned territory based on service agreements and customer needs.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED with 4+ years of work experience, including 2 years in a mechanical/technical role.
- Associate’s degree or related certifications in a technical/mechanical field, competitive equipment training, or related military experience may substitute for technical experience.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet all required background and physical assessment elements for vendor credentialing.
- Customer and team engagement experience.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic computer skills (MS Windows/email, navigation, mobile apps, and multi-system data input).
- Ability to meet flexible schedules, including potential overnights and early/late hours based on customer and business needs.

Pay
The pay range for this opportunity is $68,850.00 – $89,100.00, with eligibility for bonus participation. Minimum pay rates will comply with county/city minimums if higher than the listed range. Pay is based on factors including local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, and foreign language fluency.
