About the role
Assist the Foreperson with daily production duties by operating heavy equipment and performing other miscellaneous plant-related functions.
Responsibilities
- Operate various pieces of heavy equipment accurately, efficiently, and safely, depending on the job site.
- Clean up around the plant and surrounding area.
- Lubricate and perform general maintenance on equipment.
- Follow directions from supervisors and adhere to safety and company procedures.
- Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
- Willing to travel and work away from home when required.
- Willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
- Report to the assigned job site ready to begin work at the designated start time.
- Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Manual of Safety Practices and Procedures.
- Strictly adhere to Shelly Company policies and procedures as outlined in the Company Book of Policies.
- Work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
- Maintain timely and regular attendance as an expectation of performance.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED; or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to perform routine paperwork.
- Basic mathematical skills: add and subtract two-digit numbers, multiply and divide with 10's and 100's, and perform operations using American units of money, weight, volume, and distance.
- Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, climb or balance, and talk or hear.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 105 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
- Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions.
- Regularly exposed to wet, humid conditions, airborne particles, and extreme heat or cold.
- Occasionally exposed to vibration.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud and may require protective equipment.
