About the role

Assist the Foreperson with daily production duties by operating heavy equipment and performing other miscellaneous plant-related functions.

Responsibilities

  • Operate various pieces of heavy equipment accurately, efficiently, and safely, depending on the job site.
  • Clean up around the plant and surrounding area.
  • Lubricate and perform general maintenance on equipment.
  • Follow directions from supervisors and adhere to safety and company procedures.
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
  • Willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Report to the assigned job site ready to begin work at the designated start time.
  • Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Manual of Safety Practices and Procedures.
  • Strictly adhere to Shelly Company policies and procedures as outlined in the Company Book of Policies.
  • Work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Maintain timely and regular attendance as an expectation of performance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to perform routine paperwork.
  • Basic mathematical skills: add and subtract two-digit numbers, multiply and divide with 10's and 100's, and perform operations using American units of money, weight, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, climb or balance, and talk or hear.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 105 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions.
  • Regularly exposed to wet, humid conditions, airborne particles, and extreme heat or cold.
  • Occasionally exposed to vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud and may require protective equipment.
