About the role

This position operates equipment in the repair and maintenance of city streets.

Responsibilities

  • Operates single and double axel dump trucks, backhoe, bobcat, excavator, etc.
  • Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment; performs pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Transports materials and equipment to and from work sites.
  • Flags traffic and installs traffic control devices at work sites.
  • Cuts asphalt and concrete.
  • Operates leaf collector.
  • Shoots grade.
  • Cleans ditches.
  • Maintains alleys.
  • BUILDS drainage boxes.
  • Performs related duties.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Equivalent and directly relevant experience may be considered in lieu of proof of diploma.
  • Must possess a current and valid Alabama Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the techniques, equipment, and supplies used in street and right-of-way maintenance.
  • Knowledge of city and departmental safety policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the geography of the city, including street names and locations.
  • Skill in the operation of assigned vehicles, trucks, and equipment.
  • Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
