About the role
This is the first of five levels in the Equipment Maintenance series. Incumbents perform routine and standard vehicle and equipment maintenance on a variety of vehicles and/or equipment.
Responsibilities
- Performs preventative maintenance and servicing activities which, depending on assignment, may include changing oil; changing filters; applying lubricants; checking fluid levels; inspecting brakes and tires; and performing other related activities.
- Uses and maintains hand, power and shop tools and equipment related to the work.
- Completes a variety of logs, documents, and/or simple reports regarding quantity of materials handled, equipment operations, vehicle conditions, maintenance and repair activities, and/or other related information.
- Mixes and services spray trucks to include downloading GPS information, completing spray logs, mixing/loading pesticides and calibration of spray equipment when necessary.
- Readies spray trucks for nighttime spraying by setting driver schedules, preparing work logs, and maps.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and some technical training in vehicle maintenance; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
- Licenses: Valid Driver's License as per State law or requirement. 8a Commercial Pesticide Certifications within the first year per department's requirement.

- Applicable tools and equipment utilized in routine vehicle maintenance; Methods, materials, and techniques employed in vehicle maintenance; Applicable terminology related to vehicle maintenance; Entry level vehicle and/or equipment maintenance and repair practices and procedures in assigned area of responsibility; Recordkeeping principles; Computers and related software applications; Safe work practices.
Skills
- Performing entry level vehicle and/or equipment maintenance and repairs in assigned area of responsibility;
- Preparing operational logs, records, and reports;
- Using and caring for applicable tools and equipment;
- Using a computer and related software applications;
- Understanding pesticide labels to ensure safety when handling these products in Mosquito Control;
- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
