Equipment Fleet Management Intern

About the role

Morgan Corp. is seeking candidates for a paid Equipment Fleet Management Internship for summer 2027. This opportunity is designed for students majoring in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Agricultural Mechanization, or related fields, as well as students interested in heavy equipment, fleet management, and the heavy civil construction industry. The intern will work alongside Morgan Corp.’s Equipment Division to learn how a large construction fleet is managed, maintained, deployed, and supported. The experience will include active construction projects, equipment shops and yards, fleet-management systems, maintenance activities, and coordination between the Equipment Division and project operations. The internship is designed to build practical skills applicable to careers in construction equipment and fleet management, including entry-level Equipment Division positions such as Maintenance Support Coordinator.

Responsibilities

The internship combines field exposure with technical, administrative, and analytical fleet-management activities. The intern will receive one-on-one mentorship and work with Equipment Managers and other Equipment Division personnel throughout the summer. Assignments will generally progress from foundational learning and observation to increased responsibility, independent research, and problem-solving.

• Orientation, Safety & Equipment Familiarization
  • Complete company, Equipment Division, and worksite safety orientation.
  • Become familiar with common heavy-equipment types, applications, terminology, and specifications.
  • Visit equipment shops, yards, and active construction projects.
  • Learn the roles of Equipment Managers, technicians, support personnel, drivers, and other Equipment Division team members.
  • Become familiar with the systems and information used to manage the fleet and support project operations.
• Equipment Inspections & Maintenance Workflow
  • Participate in equipment condition inspections.
  • Review inspection findings and documented repair needs.
  • Assist with compiling repair information and tracking repairs through completion.
  • Learn how maintenance priorities are established based on equipment condition, safety, availability, and project needs.
  • Develop an understanding of preventive maintenance, corrective repair, and equipment reliability.
• Parts, Inventory & Maintenance Support
  • Assist with identifying, sourcing, ordering, and tracking repair and maintenance parts.
  • Gain exposure to parts receiving, storage, issuance, returns, and inventory-control practices.
  • Understand how parts availability and backorders affect equipment downtime.
  • Gain exposure to warranty administration and coordination with OEMs and equipment dealers.
• Fleet Utilization, Data & Equipment Management
  • Track equipment location, utilization, operating hours, and related fleet information.
  • Review information from fleet-management, telematics, maintenance, and business systems.
  • Assist with compiling and reporting equipment information.
  • Learn how utilization, equipment condition, maintenance requirements, and project demand influence fleet decisions.
  • Gain exposure to rental-equipment management, equipment assignments, transfers, and mobilizations.
• Technical Research & Problem Solving
  • Research equipment specifications, OEM technical information, parts, attachments, and other equipment-related topics.
  • Obtain and compare specifications, quotes, and supporting documentation.
  • Organize information and summarize findings for Equipment Division personnel.
  • Assist with investigating maintenance, utilization, or fleet-management issues.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, utilization, cost, or support processes.
  • Communicate with project personnel, equipment dealers, vendors, and other stakeholders as appropriate.

Work Environment & Travel

The internship includes work in office, shop, equipment-yard, and active construction-site environments throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. The intern should expect outdoor weather conditions, uneven terrain, construction equipment, and active jobsites. Activities may include extended standing or walking, climbing on or around equipment during inspections, bending, kneeling, and occasional lifting or carrying. Travel to Morgan Corp. shops and project sites will be part of the internship experience. The intern must follow all Morgan Corp. safety policies, worksite requirements, and company procedures.
