Epic HB Analyst

About the role
We are seeking an experienced Epic Hospital Billing (HB) Lead Analyst to provide functional and technical leadership for our Epic Hospital Billing application. This individual will serve as the primary subject matter expert for HB, leading application design, configuration, optimization, and ongoing support while partnering with Revenue Cycle, Patient Financial Services, Clinical Operations, and IT leadership. The ideal candidate has a strong background in hospital billing workflows, charge capture, HB configuration, claim edits, and revenue cycle optimization. Epic Hospital Billing certification is strongly preferred. This role requires a collaborative leader who can mentor analysts, manage complex initiatives, and drive continuous improvement across the Epic HB application.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the lead analyst for the Epic Hospital Billing (HB) application, providing strategic and operational support.
- Lead the design, build, configuration, testing, implementation, and optimization of Epic HB functionality.
- Collaborate with Revenue Cycle leadership, Patient Financial Services (PFS), Clinical Operations, and IT teams to improve billing workflows and operational efficiency.
- Configure and maintain Hospital Billing workflows, including charge capture, charge review, billing edits, reimbursement rules, and claims processing.
- Analyze and resolve complex billing, claim edit, and reimbursement issues while ensuring compliance with regulatory and organizational requirements.
- Lead requirements gathering sessions and translate business needs into Epic system solutions.
- Develop functional specifications, build documentation, testing plans, and change management documentation.
- Coordinate and lead system upgrades, enhancements, optimization initiatives, and production support activities.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to HB analysts and cross-functional team members.
- Participate in integrated testing, user acceptance testing (UAT), go-live planning, and post-implementation support.
- Collaborate with Epic application teams including Resolute Professional Billing, Cadence, Prelude, HIM, and Clinical applications to support integrated workflows.
- Monitor application performance and recommend best practices to improve revenue cycle outcomes.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Healthcare Administration, Business, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Epic Hospital Billing (HB) Certification preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of Epic Hospital Billing application experience.
- Strong experience with:
- Hospital Billing (HB) configuration
- Charge capture workflows
- Claim edits and billing rules
- Revenue cycle operations
- Billing workqueues
- Claims processing and reimbursement workflows
- Experience leading Epic implementations, upgrades, or optimization initiatives.
- Strong understanding of healthcare revenue cycle processes and hospital billing operations.
- Experience with workflow analysis, system configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and production support.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
