Epic AI Quarterback (Epic AI Execution Specialist)
Role Overview
The Epic AI Quarterback (Epic AI Execution Specialist) is a senior, hybrid leadership role responsible for driving the successful adoption and execution of AI capabilities within the Epic ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
Lead AI Strategy & Execution
Evaluate available AI capabilities and develop actionable roadmaps aligned to organizational priorities
Identify and mitigate barriers to adoption, including workflow, cultural, and technical challenges
Program & Project Leadership
Serve as the central quarterback across multiple AI initiatives, ensuring alignment, accountability, and delivery
Cross-functional stakeholders to maintain momentum and achieve measurable outcomes
Establish and track KPIs tied to value realization and adoption
Business Case Development
Build compelling, data-driven business cases for AI adoption
Articulate both return on investment (ROI) and the “cost of not doing” to drive executive decision-making
Translate technical capabilities into clear operational and financial impact
Stakeholder Engagement
Engage confidently with senior and executive leadership, including C-suite and clinical leaders
Facilitate discussions that bridge technical, operational, and strategic perspectives
Navigate complex stakeholder environments to drive consensus and action
Technical & Workflow Expertise
Apply deep understanding of Epic data structures, workflows, and system capabilities
Integrate AI solutions into core workflows across:
- Ambulatory and inpatient clinical operations
- Patient access
- Reward cycle
Leverage knowledge of LLMs and AI tools to inform design and scalability
Change Management & Adoption
Lead change management strategies to ensure sustained AI utilization
Champion an “AI-native” culture across teams and leadership
Develop communication, training, and adoption frameworks that accelerate uptake
Required Qualifications
10+ years of progressive Epic experience
Minimum 5 years in a leadership capacity (e.g., Program Manager, Project Manager, Strategy Lead, or Lead Analyst)
Prior Epic certification history (minimum of three certifications within the past 10 years)
Deep expertise in:
- Epic data models and workflows
- Healthcare operations across clinical and revenue cycle domains
- AI and large language models (LLMs)
Proven ability to lead complex initiatives and influence senior stakeholders
Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and communication skills
Demonstrated experience building business cases and driving organizational change
Familiarity with key Epic AI initiatives (e.g., ambient documentation and related capabilities)
Preferred Qualifications
Attendance at opening sessions of Epic UGM or XGM within the past three years
Active user of AI tools in professional or personal contexts (e.g., Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT)
Experience designing, implementing, or leading change management for AI initiatives
