Environmental System Technician

About the role

Arcadis is seeking an Environmental System Technician to join our team in Novi, MI. This position involves both field and office work, with 95-100% of the time spent in the field. As part of our Resilience Environment team, you will assist project sites with wastewater and water treatment systems, environmental monitoring, waste coordination, and subcontractor oversight.

Responsibilities

• Perform remedial system O&M, troubleshooting, optimization, and monitoring/sampling
• Ensure health and safety is the top priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes
• Assure integrity, cleanliness, and security of system buildings/enclosures and equipment
• Provide prompt communication to the project management team when equipment is not safe and/or functioning at optimal performance to meet project objectives
• Operate, monitor, troubleshoot, repair, and adjust treatment plant machinery and equipment
• Implement immediate corrective actions when an alarm is triggered or system data indicates a potential safety, operational or compliance issue
• Review and evaluate operational data and provide recommendations for improving system performance
• Collect system samples according to established permit and operational requirements
• Calibrate and maintain controllers, electrodes, flow and control equipment
• Determine and prepare appropriate ratios of chemical mixes for batch treatments (where applicable)
• Install, maintain, and perform data download from a host of smart telemetry devices IoT
• Oversee subcontractors to perform selected operation, maintenance/repair of systems, preventative maintenance, and monitoring in accordance with Health and Safety requirements
• Record all project observations, readings, and activities as required for regulatory, client, and safety record keeping requirements

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 2 years of mechanical system O&M experience
• Trade School Certificate/Diploma, associate’s degree, or bachelor’s degree preferred
• Wastewater or environmental water treatment system experience
• Wastewater or water license certification preferred
• 40-Hour HAZWOPER training preferred
• Confined Space Entry training preferred
• Behavioral-Based Safety training preferred
• Knowledge of programmable logic controllers preferred
• RCRA hazardous waste and DOT waste handling training preferred
• Familiarity with Microsoft suite of software (word, excel, Teams, Sharepont) and PowerBI, MSAccess, and PowerPoint preferred

Qualifications & Experience

• Mechanically inclined with experience operating and troubleshooting tools and equipment
• Aptitude for mechanical and electrical problem solving
• Effective time management, ability to work with diverse people and skill sets, and adaptability to changing work environments
• Solid written and verbal communication skills and sound judgment to make good decisions benefiting the project and the client
• Fluency in Microsoft suite of software (word, excel, Teams, Sharepont) and PowerBI, MSAccess, and PowerPoint

Pay

The salary range for this position is $55,200 - $82,800. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
