About the role
We are seeking an individual who can provide on-scene response to environmental emergencies, manage cleanup contractors, and oversee responsible parties. This position requires proficiency with monitoring and detection equipment, and a commitment to maintaining a valid driver’s license and credentials.
Responsibilities
- Provide on-scene response to environmental emergencies, manmade and natural disasters
- Oversight of cleanup contractors and responsible parties
- Direct state contractor and work with other agencies and the public
- Collect detailed documentation and take photographs of incidents for timely reports
- Attend local emergency planning committee meetings and regional homeland security oversight committee meetings
- Answer the department’s 24-hour emergency spill reporting hotline and coordinate with management and other agencies
- Support emergency and disaster planning and understand relevant Missouri regulations
- Obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and credentials adequate to access federal facilities
Requirements
- Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with 30 earned credit hours in natural sciences or 4-6 years of hazardous materials technician experience
- Likely to require medical monitoring and clearance by the department’s occupational health physician
- Must be able to distinguish colors
Qualifications
- Hazardous Materials: Knowledge of hazardous materials and waste and their uses, interactions, dangers, production, handling, storage, and disposal
- Incident Management: Knowledge of the tactics, technologies, principles, and processes to protect, analyze, prioritize, and handle incidents
- Project Management: Knowledge of the principles, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing projects and resources, including monitoring and inspecting costs, work, and contractor performance
- Technical Competence: Uses knowledge acquired through formal training or extensive on-the-job experience to perform one's job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues
Skills
- Knowledge of Missouri regulations (Chapter 260.500-550 Revised Statutes)
- Ability to wear respiratory protection and personal protective equipment
- Proficiency with multiple pieces of monitoring and detection equipment
- Knowledge of natural sciences (Environmental Science or Technology, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Physical Science, Geology, Engineering, Agronomy, Forestry, Soil Science, Ecology, Wildlife Management, Agriculture, Animal Science, Natural Resource Management, Soil Conservation, Atmospheric Science, or closely related fields)
