Environmental Manager - San Diego, CA
About the role
The Environmental Manager position is available to Veterans, Transitioning Military, National Guard and Reserve Members, Military Spouses, Wounded Warriors, and their Caregivers. This role is 'On-Site' at the San Diego Maritime Solutions facility.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain programs for environmental protection and compliance obligations for all federal, state, and local regulations in a cost-effective manner.
- Oversight of Best Management Practices (BMPs), participation in emergency planning activities, leading environmental incident investigations, integration of environmental programs in the production environment, conduct environmental training of employees.
- Manage all aspects of the site ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
- Establish a robust system for the management of all Environmental Programs.
- Ensure environmental involvement of SHEQ activities.
- Implement a robust Environmental Risk Assessment program.
- Manage and communicate the environmental compliance calendar.
- Oversee the Environmental Protection subcommittee for the site.
- Meet all established KPIs.
- Project management of Environmental initiatives.
- Provide training on Environmental programs.
- Workplace Environmental inspection program.
- Provide direction and training to subordinates, peers, and trades.
- Represent BAE Systems San Diego Maritime Solutions during environmental inspections and audits.
- Oversee and develop written compliance programs for yard-wide implementation.
- Advising the SHEQ director and Site SLT of emerging compliance issues and solutions.
Requirements
Typically requires a Bachelors degree in Environmental/ Health/Safety field or a related science-based discipline and eight (8) years of related experience or the overall equivalent experience; Proven experience in program development and implementation; Knowledgeable in ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management Systems, including experience in auditing of requirements; Management experience to successfully lead and nurture a team; Highly effective communication skills - verbal, written, presentation - to be able to share information to all levels of the facility; Training experience; Computer skills to include ability to work with industry-specific software/databases/sites; Must be able to board all ships and enter all spaces regardless of size to complete inspections and ensure compliance of environmental rules; Able to walk up and down stairs and work at heights, including using PFAS as applicable; Knowledge/expertise of applicable Federal, State and Local Environmental regulations and standards.
Qualifications
- 40-hour HAZWOPER and annual 8-Hour refresher training.
- Certified Hazardous Materials Management.
- Certified ISO 14001 Lead Auditor.
- OSHA/Cal OSHA regulations.
- High degree of proficiency in MS Excel for data compilation/manipulation/analytics.
- Licenses/Certifications: HAZWOPER, OSHA/Cal OSHA regulations, ISO 14001 Lead Auditor.
