Our company is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager to oversee EHS compliance and initiatives at our two facilities in Kansas City, KS. This hands-on role involves both implementation and administrative responsibilities, reporting to the Director of Environmental, Health, and Safety with a dotted line to local plant managers. The EHS Manager will collaborate with internal teams and external partners, such as insurance carriers and consultants, to uphold EHS best practices.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement programs ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local EHS regulations.
- Serve as an EHS leader, mentoring teams and promoting safe work practices through daily interactions with site departments.
- Maintain and promote EHS policies and procedures, including training programs that meet or exceed regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate EHS considerations into all operational aspects.
- Act as the site’s Subject Matter Expert for environmental, safety, and health requirements and best practices.
- Engage with the Plant Leadership Team to incorporate EHS goals into annual site plans and provide ongoing program updates.
- Facilitate accident, incident, and near-miss investigations, serving as the site representative for workers’ compensation claims.
- Maintain all required safety, accident, and environmental records and documentation.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop hazard mitigation strategies.
- Oversee the proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials and waste, including waste reduction initiatives.
- Conduct environmental and safety compliance inspections and report data to state and federal agencies.
- Ensure and maintain site emergency response and contingency plans.
- Serve as the point person for OSHA and EPA inspections, providing documentation and coordinating with site leadership.
- Verify the availability and condition of safety equipment, including PPE, forklifts, overhead cranes, hearing protection, and machine guarding.
- Ensure routine inspections of fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, machine guards, warehousing racks, and grounds are completed as required.
- Participate in EHS monthly meetings with site and corporate personnel and develop an EHS Scorecard to drive performance improvements.
- Serve as the local representative on the Safety Center of Excellence (COE) and the Green Team.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Four-year degree in EHS Management, EHS Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience leading Environmental, Health, and Safety in a manufacturing facility.
- Preferred direct experience with environmental management/reporting in Kansas, including:
- Large quantity hazardous waste generator compliance.
- Class II Air permit management.
- Stormwater management.
- Experience with an Environmental, Health & Safety Management system such as VelocityEHS.
- Experience leading safety committees and developing/delivering EHS training.
- Certification such as Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Registered Environmental Manager (REM), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) is preferred but not required.
Working Conditions
- Must be able to lift and handle items up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Standard work hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with additional hours as needed.
- Requires physical dexterity to bend, stand, flex, and reach as dictated by the role.
- Must be able to prioritize and meet multiple expectations in a dynamic environment.
- Proficiency with company software is required.
