About the role
As an Environmental Health and Safety Manager, your contribution will be instrumental in the success of the Amarillo Facility. You will ensure adherence to regulatory standards, proactively prevent accidents, and oversee post-injury management. You will develop and implement tailored Environmental Health and Safety plans aligned with overarching objectives, fostering a collaborative, proactive, and inventive approach to problem-solving to enhance our overall strategy and Environmental Health and Safety management system.
Responsibilities
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement that exceeds division expectations.
- Evaluate business unit capabilities, skills, and resource alignment to ensure performance against objectives; lead realignment efforts as needed for execution excellence.
- Develop, implement, and monitor safety programs to reduce the frequency of accidents and injuries; assist in minimizing overall workers’ compensation costs.
- Plan, implement, communicate, and monitor safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal OSHA rules and regulations.
- Audit various safety program elements for effectiveness; schedule and perform safety inspections; identify issues and develop corrective action plans.
- Supervise, control, and monitor fire prevention and firefighting activities.
- Investigate all accidents and injuries; recommend and/or coordinate corrective actions.
- Develop and implement safety training programs designed to instruct employees in general safe work practices and hazards unique to specific job assignments; provide training for new employees.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of federal and state OSHA regulations and websites; stay up-to-date on safety codes and regulations; distribute and/or post new or revised safety standards.
- Review and respond to OSHA inquiries.
- Identify potential safety hazards at all facilities; report hazards and recommendations for eliminating or reducing them to management.
- Coordinate with other departments on the design and construction of new equipment, facilities, and work methods to ensure compliance with safety policies and regulations.
- Encourage employees and supervisors to report all unsafe conditions immediately and schedule or coordinate repairs as soon as possible.
- Encourage employees and supervisors to report any job-related injury, even minor incidents, immediately.
- Maintain records for statistical measurement and conformance to standard practices of the safety industry.
- Prepare and maintain required safety reports.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Minimum of three to six years of related experience.
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) preferred.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and compliance standards.
- Commitment to excellence and high standards.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work with all levels of management.
- Proven leadership and business acumen skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills; ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Proficient in computer programs required for the position.
- Ability to manage priorities and workflow.
- Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
- Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
- Ability to understand all safety requirements and cautions.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
- Demonstrated competence in reacting to and handling emergencies.
- Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
- Bilingual skills a plus.
