Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist I-II

About the role

Manage workers' compensation case management and documentation, post-accident/injury investigations, and serve as the company representative in court proceedings. Ensure compliance, proper coordination, and execution of benefits by working closely with the Third-Party Administrator for timely and accurate resolution of claims.

Maintain facility and legal compliance for postings, documentation, reporting, and procedures. Ensure accident reports are completed accurately and coordinate with Occupational Medicine, supervisors, and employees regarding appointments and restrictions.

Responsible for the identification, development, coordination, and execution of EHS training, training materials, and efforts to support operational needs, balancing safety, quality, and efficiency. Track, report, and develop training materials, annual training plans, and maintain records to support compliance with OSHA, ISO, and the Business Management System.

Develop and deliver EHS training programs in compliance with OSHA standards. Administer and coordinate EHS processes and procedures, including ISO 14001, ISO 45001, BBS, SMS, and EMS. Proactively identify training gaps and develop programs to support facility initiatives.

Complete all required state and federal reporting, including OSHA logs. Provide timely data, reporting, communications, and trend analysis to identify safety opportunities and implement initiatives. Administer facility safety and wellness programs and contribute to problem-solving activities that drive improved EHS results through methods like Value Stream Mapping and Kaizen Events.

Work closely with staff and employees to identify safety opportunities, recommend resolutions, and develop training programs. Ensure proper training for job rotation, first responders, hazmat, and other critical areas. Lead Emergency Response Teams and ensure the efficacy of ancillary processes such as spill kit replenishment and first aid supplies. Actively respond to emergency-related events.

Conduct accident reviews for all incidents, injuries, and near-misses, facilitating discussions with the safety committee to resolve safety opportunities. Perform facility safety audits, hazard assessments, PPE compliance audits, and Gemba walks. Conduct quarterly industrial wastewater and stormwater sampling.

Improve EHS results in a participative environment through influence and facilitation, enhancing employee engagement in health, safety, and wellness.

Requirements

• B.S. degree in a related discipline (Occupational Safety, Safety Sciences, and/or Environmental Engineering).
• Broad EHS knowledge with 4-7 years of industry experience preferred.
• May consider 8-12 years of progressive related EHS experience in lieu of a degree.

Skills

• Specialized knowledge of Federal and State environmental health and safety regulations, including Workers’ Compensation, RCRA, EPCRA, TSCA, NPDES, CAA, PSM/RMP, SPPP/SPCC, DOT, OSHA, and EPA.
• Required under CFR 40 264.16 Personnel Training: Knowledge of proper Federal/State waste management and disposal procedures, including identifying waste materials, training others on safety guidelines, conducting risk assessments, and coordinating storage and handling of hazardous waste.
• Effective communication, presentation, facilitation, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.

• Excellent organizational, prioritization, and planning experience.
• Proficiency in MS Office for developing, maintaining, and tracking training materials and records.
• Knowledge of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and ISO 45001 Occupational Safety Management Systems (SMS).
• Project management experience/exposure preferred.
