Responsibilities
- Participates in the pre-job planning process, assisting Project Teams and EHS Managers in the development of project specific Environmental, Health and Safety Plans to ensure a safe work environment
- Partner with field supervision to promote positive safety culture and behavioral accountability rather than checkbox compliance
- Support Project Teams and EHS Management in developing project-specific EHS plans aligned with OSHA 1910/1926 Subpart V, client requirements, and industry best practices
- Facilitate HR and Environmental, Health and Safety Orientations for regional office, field personnel and union employees to ensure positive onboarding experience and quick acclimation to the company is achieved
- Conduct field safety audits, observations, and job site inspections focused on high-risk electrical utility work
- Manage investigations where unsafe acts or incidents occur to ensure proper handling techniques and corrective actions developed to minimize ongoing risk
- Facilitates regular Environmental, Health and Safety training sessions for all area employees to ensure compliance and a safe work environment for all
- Manages the distribution of EHS equipment, information, etc. to the regional teams to protect the Environmental, Health and Safety of all employees
- Initiates and reviews training documents, EHS forms and other records to validate accuracy and to ensure timeliness of distribution/filing
- Performs regulatory research based on the project, equipment, chemicals, or other situations to ensure that appropriate Environmental, Health and Safety precautions are in place to minimize risk
- Evaluates environmental hazards on the job to ensure they are handled and disposed of properly
- Performs regional DOT testing timely and at the appropriate intervals (new hires, random, post-incident, suspicion) to ensure compliance with Environmental, Health and Safety regulations
- Presents status updates at client meetings on EHS initiatives and compliance to ensure leaders have the most current information regarding Environmental, Health and Safety protocols at project sites
Qualifications
- Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, EHS or related field preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience required
- Experience: 4 + years of experience in an Environmental, Health and Safety role within the civil construction, electric utility or similar field
- Certification: Current First Aid, CPR, AED and OSHA Outreach Instructor preferred, will train otherwise
- Certification: Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) or equivalent utility safety credential preferred
- Functional Skills: Solid planning, analyzing, organization, prioritization, and execution skills required; solid forward-thinking, problem-solving, follow-up, and time management skills; ability to follow through on open items
- Technology Skills: Solid skills related to Microsoft Office and other relevant software programs.
- Language Skills: Solid verbal and written communication skills; able to present and train others
- Leadership/Behaviors: Strong customer-focus and interpersonal skills to communicate expectations; able to work with all levels both inside and outside the organization. Requires a strong work ethic and a high value system focused on quality, safety and accuracy; able to work independently; solid influencing and collaboration skills; strong sense of urgency to get things done
