Responsibilities

  • Staff Leadership: Lead, train, and guide engineering and scientific staff while organizing and delegating work.
  • Permit Oversight: Review permit applications, workload distribution, and records of decision to ensure proper interpretation of laws and regulations.
  • Regulatory Guidance: Provide engineering advice and direction on applicable rules, policies, and technical requirements.
  • Interagency Coordination: Participate in meetings with federal, state, and local partners to maintain consistent program operations.
  • Public Interaction: Provide information to operators, municipalities, and the public and direct follow-up actions as needed.
  • Operational Management: Monitor section goals, analyze workload data, and ensure timely processing of permit applications.

Requirements

  • Two years as an Environmental Engineer or an Air Quality Engineer (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or five years of professional engineering experience in environmental protection or in environmental project development, design, or construction.
  • Possession of a valid Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists or a valid Professional Engineer license issued by the applicable licensing body of another state.
  • Successful candidates with an out-of-state Professional Engineer license will be required to produce a valid Professional Engineer license issued by Pennsylvania within their initial six-month probationary period.
  • Possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions.

Schedule

  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: Opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. Requires a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If unable to telework, reporting to the headquarters office in Pittsburgh is required. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.
