Environmental Compliance Manager Americas
About the role
The Environmental Compliance Manager will join the Health Safety Environment and Quality team within the Operations department. Reporting to the Global Head of HSEQ, this role will oversee regulatory compliance in North America, LATAM, and Caribbean operations, guiding stakeholders on environmental compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide corporate oversight and support to ensure facilities comply with local, state, and federal environmental regulations and permit requirements.
- Support site personnel in maintaining full regulatory compliance, mitigating potential liabilities, and avoiding legal penalties.
- Guide the design, implementation, and review of corporate and site-level environmental policies, standards, and procedures aligned with permit and regulatory obligations, as well as maintain and implement international standard certifications for the environment.
- Coverage of periodic environmental assessments of facilities to ensure effective implementation of regulatory requirements and company standards.
- Provide regulatory guidance to facilities in scope, interpret evolving environmental laws and permits, and practice open communication to ensure stakeholders and decision makers are aligned with regulatory changes.
- Define budget and monitor cost expenses related to environmental compliance.
- Oversee and coordinate activities of contractors and vendors engaged in environmental compliance work.
- Support the interface with regulatory agencies, including leading inspection preparations, handling inquiries, and managing permit applications, renewals, and modifications.
- Assess regulatory risk and potential consequences associated with operational changes to help mitigate penalties or sanctions, and lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
- Provide coaching, assistance, and tools to all levels of the business to promote a culture in which environmental compliance is at the forefront of each discussion being made.
- Guarantee support to other departments of the company in relation with environmental processes and responsibilities (e.g., due diligence during business development and acquisition; sustainability reporting to shareholders; …).
Qualifications and Skills
- Education: Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering/Environmental Policy & Management.
- Experience: At least 10 years of experience in the environmental field, in the energy sector.
- Skills:
- Use of software applications such as Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.
- Attention to detail and an investigative mindset.
- Understand operational workflow, challenging, and proposing improvements to streamline processes and procedures.
- Grit in action: pursue the highest standards of performance, unwavering in the face of difficulty or opposition.
- Effectively collaborate and partner with others to achieve common goals, actively contribute to team effort, celebrate achievements.
- Communicate openly and transparently, share information with the team.
- Adaptability and tenacity in crisis management situations.
- Travel requirements: this role requires overnight and short-term travel: 40% travel to other facilities and off-site activities. Valid driver’s license is needed.
- Ability to perform both repetitive and varied physical tasks, including lifting (up to 25 lbs), pushing, pulling, bending, stretching, and climbing as required.
