About the role
This is an entry-level position in the utility/manufacturing department, with expectations to learn and perform various job duties, including those of the R2, MTA, and Pulp Utility positions, as well as assisting mill-wide as needed.
Responsibilities
- Operate overhead crane and fork truck
- Assist in winder operation
- Assist other team members as necessary
- Inspect fork truck at shift start
- Fuel fork truck as necessary
- Perform housekeeping duties
- Responsible for personal safety
- Identify and report quality issues
- Learn job skills required to perform the next position in the line of progression
- Accurate and complete exchange of information with incoming crew
Physical Demands
The position may require lifting of 100 lbs. with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs. It may also require stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
Working Conditions
Work is located inside and protected from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes. Physical surroundings may have extremes of wet and humid conditions, and may be subject to noise, vibration, fumes, odors, humidity, wet, dust, and poor ventilation. The position involves a 12-hour work schedule with rotating shifts.
Skills
- Able to perform basic math operations (add, subtract, multiply, divide) with like common and decimal fractions
- Compute ratio, rate, and percent
- Draw and interpret bar graphs
- Able to read safety rules and instructions in the use and maintenance of shop tools and equipment
- Able to write complete, accurate, and legible reports with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar
- Basic computer skills
- Attention to detail
