Entry Level Software Systems Engineer

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, or Engineering, Science, or Math. Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities

As a Software Systems Engineer / Integrator supporting Surface Ship Systems Programs, you will be an integral member of an agile engineering team committed to delivering robust, secure, and scalable infrastructure solutions for U.S. Navy surface ships. You will design, configure, and integrate software solutions, conduct manual testing and debugging, and develop technical documentation. Key responsibilities include:

• Containerization & Software Delivery: Package, deploy, and maintain containerized applications using tools like Zarf and related orchestration frameworks. Deliver updates through scripted and automated pipelines for CI/CD workflows.
• Scripting & Automation: Develop and maintain automation scripts using Bash, PowerShell, and GitLab CI/CD pipelines to streamline integration, deployment, and system administration tasks.
• Stakeholder Communication & Collaboration: Engage in professional written communication with internal and external stakeholders. Maintain project documentation, task tracking, and reporting using Jira and Confluence.
• Documentation & Reporting: Author and maintain technical documentation, integration reports, and metrics dashboards. HTML familiarity is beneficial for web-based documentation.
• Application Code Familiarity: Working knowledge of Java, Vue.js, .NET MAUI, Go, and/or HTML for debugging and integration support.
• AI-Assisted Engineering: Identify and apply AI tools to improve engineering workflows, testing, and integration processes.
• Quality Assurance & Integration Testing: Perform manual testing, debugging, and validation in a production-like lab environment. Track defects to ensure system reliability.

Skills and Abilities

• Foundational understanding of software integration concepts and multi-component system troubleshooting.
• Working knowledge of Linux and/or Windows server environments, including configuration and administration.
• Experience with scripting languages (Bash, PowerShell) and automation frameworks (Ansible).
• Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, Zarf) and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab).
• Strong documentation and communication skills, with attention to detail.
• Ability to work in an Agile team environment using Jira and Confluence.
• Understanding of cybersecurity principles and vulnerability management.
• Emerging awareness of AI/ML tools in engineering and DevSecOps contexts.

Pay

Target salary range: USD $77,843.00/Yr. - USD $86,358.00/Yr. Actual pay may vary based on experience and factors like geographic location.

Schedule

Flexible schedules available, including a 9/80 schedule (every other Friday off).
