Entry Level Data Center Depot Technician
About the role
The IT Hardware Depot Technician supports the daily operations of a hardware processing depot by receiving, organizing, staging, and distributing IT equipment. This role focuses on maintaining a clean, efficient, and standardized work environment while ensuring accurate tracking and handling of devices throughout their lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workspace following 5S principles (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain)
- Ensure all equipment, tools, and workstations are properly labeled, stored, and easily accessible
- Keep staging areas organized to support smooth intake, processing, and outbound flow
- Identify opportunities to improve layout, organization, and workflow efficiency
- Receive, unpack, and sort incoming hardware shipments
- Verify incoming items against packing lists and report discrepancies or damages
- Label and organize equipment in designated storage or staging areas
- Maintain accurate inventory records using tracking systems or logs
- Support inventory counts, audits, and cycle checks
- Stage devices for deployment, storage, or shipment based on operational needs
- Auxiliary in basic device setup tasks such as labeling, tagging, or packaging
- Follow standardized checklists to ensure devices are ready for next steps
- Perform basic inspection to confirm devices meet quality expectations
- Track and move equipment through intake, storage, deployment, return, and retirement stages
- Auxiliary in decommissioning processes, including equipment sorting and secure handling
- Ensure proper documentation and labeling throughout the lifecycle
- Help maintain chain-of-custody and asset accountability
- Prepare equipment for shipment, including packing, labeling, and palletizing
- Cook outgoing shipments and ensure proper documentation is completed
- Stage outbound orders to meet delivery timelines
- Maintain organized shipping and receiving areas
- Work closely with team members and supervisors to prioritize daily work
- Communicate status updates, delays, or issues impacting workflow
- Follow standardized processes and procedures to ensure consistency
- Contribute to a positive, team-oriented environment focused on efficiency and accuracy
Qualifications
- Experience in warehouse, logistics, inventory, or operations environments preferred
- Strong attention to detail and organization skills
- Ability to follow standardized processes and checklists
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
- Basic familiarity with computers or IT equipment is a plus (not required)
- Ability to lift and move equipment as needed
Preferred Experience
- Experience with 5S, Lean, or process improvement practices
- Inventory tracking or asset management experience
- Shipping/receiving or fulfillment experience in a warehouse environment
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Northlake, IL.
Pay And Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
