About the Role

The Contract Specialist assists with estimating, proposal development, and procurement of master service agreements and site-specific projects for distribution, transmission, and substation construction. This role establishes and maintains positive customer relationships while ensuring Pike’s project management and field operations teams have the necessary contractual information to perform work safely, cost-effectively, and on time. Contract Specialists develop industry skills and work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with estimates and proposals for site-specific projects and master service agreements.
  • Review project plans and specifications, coordinating with the project team to confirm complete scope.
  • Participate in customer pre-bid meetings (in-person or virtual).
  • Identify risk issues and their order of magnitude.
  • Solicit subcontractor and/or supplier information and pricing.
  • Build effective relationships with customers, design teams, specialty contractors, suppliers, and user groups that reflect and support company core values.
  • Assist with contract negotiation and work with the project team to establish systems for contract execution, including subcontractor management and material procurement.
  • Assist with contractual meetings (pre-bid, contract negotiations, contract kickoff, post-project meetings, etc.).
  • Support management of emergency and storm restoration events.

Requirements

  • 4-year college degree, preferably in engineering or business management.
  • Strong mathematical, communication, and computer skills.
  • Knowledge of project management fundamentals.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.
  • Demonstrated skills in written communications; ability to compose proposals, technical documents, and formal letters.
  • Demonstrated skills in oral communications; ability to present to diverse groups.
  • High energy level with the ability to work in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment with a bias for action.
  • Proven success in developing and maintaining internal and external relationships while navigating organizational barriers.
  • High commitment to achieving goals and plans.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Ability to assist with multiple projects simultaneously.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
  • General understanding of Fixed Price, Time & Materials, Cost Plus, and Unit contract pricing mechanisms.
  • Working knowledge of techniques needed to lead and influence others in a matrix organization.
  • Ability to collaborate with individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.

The Electric team works with utilities nationwide to address energy infrastructure challenges, including designing new transmission and distribution systems, upgrading and managing smart meter installations, and integrating renewable energy sources onto the grid.
